I'm far from perfect with biosecurity within my own flock, and do forget sometimes to pay close attention to going from 1 pen to another on my own property. BUT... While I was out of town for 3 months and my bf was caring for my flock, hatching , & brooding.... I never even thought to explain the importance of it between the flock & the brooder. Since, my brooder has still never been empty, & we r getting deaths that appear to be from Cocci!! I have my last set in there now, & have had to start treating them. We have of course emptied, cleaned, scrubbed with bleach, let air dry for hours, but still its affecting my babies. No problems with any of my older birds, except a new pullet that hasn't been here long, just babies. After I've finished brooding this group, and the brooder has been empty for sometime, will it go awa, or "die" out? My incy is off, but I have ordered more eggs. :/ OOPS! I can brood the next set elsewhere, but I do not want to have to deal with this forever in my big brooder. Is there some way to fix this problem, other than burning my brooder? It wasn't cheap. Lol

I incubate in my basement for that reason it stays a fairly steady temp year round, and the humidity is right about 35 % year round I have a dehumidifier that keeps it there so a lot easier for me as i know there will be no temp spikes or drops..and it is is heated by my boiler pipes running all over so it stays about 65-7- year round. and it is also unfinsished so I brood there also as chick dust is no problem..I Have 2, 48 egg chinese incubator that costs between 119-179 on ebay one has been running for 7 months straight

..I need to either give my neighbors a bunch of eggs or pack the other one full I have about 4 dozen eggs in my basement on a shelf (great egg storage option also if you sell hatching eggs)..I get about 8- 10 eggs a day and have about 10 pullets ready to lay..anyone need some eggs to practice on?

I'd take them, but I can't handle the low hatch rates I've been getting. =(
I know I can get two of my minions on board with building me a basement (unfinished, of course), but I don't think I can get the permit from DH to get the work done.

This should work for pretty much anything:
Spray it down well with hydrogen peroxide and let it dry.
Spray it down well with white vinegar and let it dry.
In your bedding, use DE and mint leaves (I don't know the exact function of the mint leaves and I use dried only in indoor things, but outdoors, I don't have a problem with just doing a quick mint harvest and chucking the leaves in the DL).
I use sand in my brooder and pine shavings in the coops (DL).

Heat will kill it. Do you have a heat gun? You could use bleach or oxine and then the heat gun to dry it. that might get it.

I'm planning to switch to sand. Bought a truck load, and my bf, being so sweet, started putting it in the chicken runs, & used it ALL b4 I could stop him. Lol

No, just heat lamps. Lol when I get this group out, I'll bleach it again, then maybe leave the lamps on, but closer for awhile

LOL..maybe when it cools down more good time of year to learn on some of the harder to hatch breeds like Marans as the paint in thinner and actually easier for them to get out...I have bantam eggs coming out my ears could be pure could be mixed..they tend to run around with their own types mostly..some of them lay a medium egg no idea who other than a brown Egg layer honestly i think i like them better than my LF except bertha my cornish X we let live she is sooo sweet and six months old and huge but she still gets around just fine even jumps a three ft fence to go play in the garden..

It took A LOT of hatched before I FINALLY convinced myself to stop looking. I enjoy when I'm sitting around and suddenly start eating peeping!!

I like Marans. They're beautiful birds. We've received a total of three Marans chicks, but none of them made it more than a week or two. They're so sensitive that I think I would have to hatch them here to be able to keep them. DH is into single breed flocks; I'm into whatever-strikes-my-fancy-this-month/week/season flocks.
