Incubators Anonymous

Chick season has begun! Set my first batch of eggs last night - Silkies, Bantam Orps, and mixes of the two. Plus a few blue eggs from my young Ams :) Just to check for fertility! Hopefully our weather will start improving by the beginning of April... It has been a long, cold winter.

I have eggs I want to send someone. they say label the eggs "hatching eggs, fragile" someone else said label them "scientific" hatching eggs or something like that... any suggestions?

I just put Fragile stickers on the boxes. Sometimes some requests that I put hatching eggs on the box, so I do so, with a red marker.

But it doesn't seem to make much difference in how the boxes get handled. Either way, the boxes are either in great condition, or look like someone played Elephant Polo with them.

My concern is that it is an uninsulated plastic square box and would likely have cool corners and bottom. It would be easier to clean and sanitize than a foam incubator.

Today's day 21!
So far, 6 healthy chicks, 1 pip, & 2 no change. Sadly, I dropped one on day 18.
Ten fertile eggs set.

Now, I'm sleepy from watching the incubator all night & entertaining guests coming to watch chicks all day.

I put a webcam on my incubator, streaming live view of the hatcher drawer, so that I can lay in bed and watch for activity. And anyone else who wants to "drop in" can do so too, anytime.

I put the expected hatch date on screen so that I don't have anyone sit for 12 days waiting for something to happen
