Hot2Pot: My computer is hooked up to dial up and loading stuff takes for ever.

On your PC load a photoshop type program (some are free) and reduce the size of the photo by changing the pixel size to some thing like 500x500 pixels and it will load much faster (I have dial up too).​

If I kept breeding back to Ameraucana roos, would I eventually get pures, and how many generations would it take?

From Livestock classes at University, I remember the answer to this! The percent of non-Ameraucana would become negligent by the 6th generation. This was and is done in many livestock species when an existing female group is already available and change in the genetics is required for whatever the reason. IT's called grading up when it's a generic breed being converted to a purebred breed. I'm not saying that the bird is purebred or that the off spring is accepted by the other breeders; that depends on the culture of the breeders.​

Ok....Listen up, I'm only going to say this once. My husband might be right, I may have a problem. I am hatching out my first batch, 47 happy growing eggs

They are due to start hatching this coming Wednesday. I have been scouring the auctions and found some Silkies I want really, really, really bad. It's only 20 more eggs

I don't think my husband will divorce me if I buy 20 more eggs to hatch. Oh, I know, I'll have my friend "buy" them

He can't be too upset about that, can he? This is how it all starts, isn't it? Not only am I a Hatchaholic, I have turned into a Shopaholic. I spend hours everyday looking through the auction sites for beautiful birds that I just think I cannot live without

"I need those Yokohama, and those Seramas are so tiny, I can buy 4 times as many" Does any of this sound familiar, or am I out here all alone?

. But unless you breed only one or two varieties of birds (and how boring is that???) at least half of your hatches wind up cockerals. Which leads to CL ads, auctions and/or freezer camp. I need to find a butcher. I don't want to do the deed myself unless I have one of those WhizBang pluckers! I wonder if any pre-assembled pluckers go up for auction??
My DH does not want any more coops - but I can change his mind there

If I were to buy a plucker and a scalder he wouldn't complain about fresh chicken. In fact, I could raise fresh free ranged chickens. process and SELL them! More money for eggs!

Dry incubation, but if it get down to the 20's I add water but it does not get over 35% ever.​

I don't know if that's the Official Ratio, but it sounded good

Now that is what I wanted to know. Thank you. Probably it is just easier to put the hens I have in the eating egg coop after the purebreds start laying. But information is good to have.

Yes. you tried to enable me with some eggs for my first hatch, but I wanted local eggs so I could really see what I was doing. I still don't trust shipped eggs.
