if the eggs came from the breeder i'm thinking of, he's near lubec maine... so here's a googlemap to give you an idea. i'm over 1000 miles from family in central maine, and considerably more to california... don't take it wrong but you couldn't pay me enough to move west. LOL

wouldn't ask anyone to do that... it's too stressful of a drive even for me! last time i went 'home' was for a double funeral. 8/ grounds too frozen in the winter to plant anyone, and both my dad's parents died the winter before so we planted em both same time (their ashes that is). did get a chance to see friends/family. we had a dual purpose funeral and family reunion... yeah odd combination but hey, we're all there same time. so celebrate family and those who are still kickin'.

on a positive note! the eggs have been incubating for only 3 days, but i candled 4 in the turner, and i've got life! so far only a couple blood vessels, but i did see heartbeats on 2, just vessels on the others.

first was a bantam egg (one of my own), then i tried a dorking (YES!), then an EE from the semi-scrambled bunch.

on the marans eggs, the shells are much darker and I don't think i'll be able to see anything for a bit longer.

and even better, someone not to far from here has a trio they need to rehome (the roo doesn't like their 3 year old...) so hopefully i'll be getting them next week.

I guess I am going to have to take some chick pictures. The Silver Laced Wyandottes are even cuter than the Speckled Sussex! I moved the young silkies out of the brooder into a pen in the barn I am enclosing. I have one side left to do, but they can't get out. Then I took the chicks out of the garage and put them in the brooder. My friend has been helping clean out the garage. It was scary out there:-D We got about half of it done, it is a two car garage. ALL of the garbage cans are full, plus we used some garbage bags! Lots more room in there now.
I had more chicks again this morning, one EE is at least a third larger than any of the other chicks, growing like a weed. Must be a rooster!
Must go unload feed from the truck, and get ready to feed all the critters and collect eggs again. Anybody need hatching eggs?:-D
