Incubators Anonymous

I don't have to make excuses because my husband is out of the state until December, but I would have to explain why I needed another incubator full of birds during the time that is supposed to be downtime for the birds lol. He did mention tonight that I need to keep tally of grain purchases versus how much I am making through selling chicks and eggs to see how much money we are losing lol. The funny thing is he really loves them and the full freezer of meat is reason enough to keep them around and the eggs are an added bonus

The chicks are in the cabinet Bator, drying off but perhaps tomorrow I can get some pics. DH is going away on business until late Sat. afternoon! This could be the perfect time to start building the new cabinet bator;-)

If you lived closer to me I would let you have my old wooden sportsman that somebody gave me. It has some issues, but I think you could fix it pretty easily. Just nobody has the time around here. Since I don't really need it...yet...it's just setting out in my Quail House being used as a table.

You are so sweet! I put the youngest quail out in the duplex today, I think they are sort of stunned at all the space they have. I had to put a ramp up to the feeder so they get an idea how to use it.
I am beat tonight, waiting for the silly cat to come in, then I am going to bed early. Hope I have some energy in the morning:p

Counted chickens today..... 20 -day olds, 15- 4 week old, 26- 6 week old and then the others totaled 103!

I thought oh lord he is going to get over whelmed now!!! But no.... "I told you you needed 100 layers!!!" I don't need or want 100 hens laying eating eggs! Now I might have 35-50 layers and then I can get 4-5 hens/pullets in each of the 10 new breeding pens so that would be another

50 for hatching eggs. That is normal right? And in the spring he can't count the chicks cuz I am going to sell them.... most of them anyway.

I know chicken math rules, don't count the eggs in the bator, and don't count the chicks... So then really I only have 42 right? Am I supposed to count the roos are they like chicks?

No, I don't think roosters count in the total . I designate them as transients , because they might get replaced at any time. I refuse to count anyways, but I did make a list of breeds , um, 15 or so.

I don't have that many breeds.... Oh we forgot the D'uccle's that just 3 more no biggie... I just have 6 breeds, that does not include each color variety in the breeds or crosses

Math has never been my strong point, but it sounds to me like you have got it:)Now where did that cat go? I want to go to sleep but I am afraid to leave her out with all the predators around here.
