Incubators Anonymous

You need to start slow and build up gradually. Now my husband hardly notices when I buy more chickens. I used to have to ask to buy chicks. Now I hatch some almost every day. He got used to it .

I started slow, 5 hens and a roo. That was back in march of this year. I have 103 chickens now.... more ordered, looking for a roo or two or three

and 24 marans eggs ready to set.... when the pens are done more eggs to be set.

The pens are coming along, I need to update my thread soon. We put the roof over part of the run for shade, made the doors and dividers for the runs. Now if the weather will cooperate we MIGHT finish this week

My son has been helping what a blessing that has been, but we have to pay that back, cleaning his basement, installing an engine and I am sure there will be babysitting the grandbabies too, but it is all good!

BTW 2 Arucanas had pipped when I left

I just came back from the coop(s) and boy I must be slacking!!!! I have 12 mixed babies from Atwoods that are a couple months old....and then I have 19 grown hens/roosters. I think out of the 19 at least 3-5 are roosters. I could actually have more roosters though. The most eggs I get in a day has been 7 lately. 5 of those are hatch and kelso pullets that haven't begun to lay yet. I am so setting more in the incubator by no later than Friday!! I've started collecting my eggs, and gonna try to also find something different to put in my bator. I've got room for 41 eggs, I have to set 41, right??

I will not answer that because it may come back to haunt me (mine holds 7 1/2 doz)

For the sake of the environment, yes

LG doing a little better now. 100 degrees on screen, 99-100 on top of eggs. Getting the temp even is trial. A broody is easier! Turning 35 ish eggs 3 times a day is the pits.

I think I'm going to ask for a turner for CHristmas!

I have a LG now, its' holding steady at 100, has been since last night. Just have to have the eggs to put in it!! I couldn't do it without a turner! Look on ebay for a inexpensive one! Well worth every penny!!

Why turn the eggs? You can just tilt the whole Bator. I put half of an egg carton under one side. Then I move it to the other side when it is time to tilt. No need to open the bator;-) Deb
