Incubators Anonymous

Tonight I hope to start taking apart the incubator I bought . Some of the wood is in bad shape, so I will replace it. This will be my third cabinet bator:) I am going to be in full gear by spring! I need to build some nest boxes for the new coop too.

Turned on the styrobator tonight! Pulled off one rotted side of the cabinet Bator , looks like a whole new cabinet is called for. But it is interesting to dissect it. Shipping 2 boxes of eggs tomorrow , and buying feed. Hatch on, folks!

Well, it's been an odd week so far... we're not done yet.

1 lonely egg went into the hatcher on the 28th. 5 more on the 30th. 1 of the 5 has quit so far, and NONE have hatched yet! but the first did internally pip yesterday.

i doublechecked temps and it was about 2 degrees low, so i bumped it up, but still! that first is on day 23, the others due today but none have internally pipped yet... and i've got 1 more to go into the hatcher on monday...

Very staggered thanks to all the hens depositing at will on a broody. These are the eggs I stole from the broody and placed in the LG. On day 23 I took the remaining blue EE eggs and put those in too just in case an EE was making deposits too!

The blue EE eggs are extra pretty next to the marans eggs.

Hovabator ordered, sitting in corner, not allowed to use it until Dec 26. I did open it to see what all was there, checked the parts, drooled a little and then retaped it. Now, to decide what eggs go in first?

I think you should set the eggs for a dec 26 HATCH! that would be a chirstmas present to cherish.

I will set the rest of the Marans eggs tomorrow (so far 19 more), didn't want to hatch on Christmas day, I have bitty babies and grandbabies.

I candled s couple of them and didn't see anything but I only set them Monday afternoon so yesterday was just day 5 and they are so dark. We'll see what happens. That is why I set so many.

Waiting to put my babies out with the big chickens 5 are 9 weeks and 7 are 6 weeks. They need to get just a little bigger before they can go out with the big kids. Wow spring can't come quick enough for me.
