Incubators Anonymous

I am so excited. I have met a man.... ok more than that... He had 2000 broilers when he was in 7th grade and is now an engineer and has all kinds of cools stuff to build me a huge accurate incubator and is willing to help for eggs. He must like me huh?

Wake up babies are hatching!  I had 8 out yesterday!  1 Lav 3 lav splits 3 ee x leghorn crosses and 1 blue rock of some sort?

Can't wait to see what is in there this morning.  Several more had pipped. :woot

:welcome the NEW BYC!

:frow

Deb some of those eggs you got from me could be lavs!!!  She may be the only one laying since the moving around, I have two egg since the move, I moved them to a pen that has more light and put my new Leghorns in that pen, the leghorns are laying everyday since I got them and this week 2 eggs woot!  That means more to go in the bator.

I think I have the marans sold :woot (I have 3 people lined up since last night, maybe because BYC was down :gig ) so I can clean the brooder out and start adding new babies. Or because someone was selling them for $10 each for day olds WTH and I had 6 for 20 (they just had to go and it is a bag of feed right)

Have a good day guys!
hey Donna, those crazy chicks I got from you went crazy when I fed them boiled egg today

13 Total hatched. 1 lav, 5 splits, 6 Leghorn x EE and 1 blue rock pullet. More to come saturday. I have 3 more Lav/Split Eggs to set next week when I get my Marans Eggs. Deb you getting any eggs? 4 didn't hatch but had not really developed only one was fully developed. 3 Leghorn eggs didn't develop either. So really out of all the viable eggs only one died. So not bad.... I need a better light to candle with... it is on its way 400 lumens that should get it huh?

Got my flexwatt... made a little brooder thing.. the chicks go under it but I don't think it is warm enough. the thermostat says 80 so I have a 125 watt brooder light on too. I am thinking I need to make a BOX with a door to hold the heat in better. Maybe a new brooder is in order.

no eggs yet, but they got moved so i figure 2 weeks before they lay. Argh, the weather stinks! I went to town today because i never made it to Jackson this week and it was so ugly outside, i figured i might as well go. Bought more feed, chicken wire, plywood and some stuff to eat at walmart. The heater in my truck was not acting right, but i fiddled with it and got it going again.Snow blowing sideways, not my idea of a fun day. Must go check the chicks in the barn again soon. The FBCM chicks are growing like weeds!

They eat like pigs too! We had to work on the breeding pens in this mess. we have a leak in three and the problem seems to be the roof is too short to reach the gutter.... Tire tubes are now our new flashing.. hope that works. I am sick of wet food and litter. We moved the lavs from that pen to another one and put 3 new leghorns in there. They have never used a nest box so they are laying all over. I added some ceramic eggs to the nest box maybe they will figure it out soon. Don't like crawling in mud and droppings in 28* to get eggs.

Ugh, this is so annoying to have eggs coming out my ears and not being able to incubate them!! I am under oath that I cannot even THINK about turning on my incubators!! *sigh* I have tons of Easter Egger and Olive Egger eggs that need to be incubate. I really hate to sell them for eating eggs, if anyone wants them please PM me. Maybe we can work out a swap when I can incubate.
