Quote: Same eggs as normal. New digital thermostat same thermometers. I had 9 out on day 20 3 more zipping and I don't know how many pips but lots... My Marans all but three had pipped... If they all hatch that will be my best ever hatch of marans.... BTW the fan was out yesterday... temps and humidity are fine so I left it alone till they hatch....They don't seem to be shrink wrapping

Donna--Hatching on day 20 seems within normal range. Good job on the marans. I have a dozen in now-- I"m a little nervous, At least these were not shipped. ANd of course the AMeraucana are not giving up any eggs the girls prefer to linger in the coop and not get the sun exposure from playing in their new run, so only 1 egg from 1 adventurous hen and armorous rooster. I have one potential customer wanting Ameracana---I do feel the need to educate and clarify EE and AM. It might cost me a sale but I do feel I need to be honest. I'm breeding AM back into the EE. It was easier finding AM roosters than EE roosters! No real surprise there.

Karen--thank for sharing the photos. YOu have been very busy getting this project done in double time. Very nice workmanship and design. A+

no i'm not a pro. lol i used a shelf kit we bought about 15 years ago for my 'model' on the shelf, and some leftover 2/8" plywood and 1x2's, and some 1/2" hardware cloth that's about 20 years old.

i'll give you a hint tho. i mocked it all up on google sketch-up first, and that gave me all my measurements i needed. and the assistance of my faitful miter saw. 8)

don't knock yours, you're the one that gave me the idea in the first place! i just improved on a good idea. 8)

and actually, i was going to make it all one piece, hubby's the one that said make it removable.

I have 36 new babies... every Marans eggs hatched or pipped. 1 died after zipping some, 1 is still pipped but WOW I can't believe it! My fan died the 19th day so I left it alone since the temp was doing fine and I guess it worked! No one really shrink wrapped so that was a first. Even the ones that were slow to zip didn't dry out much.

now I have to sell some

Great job Donna. Maybe you hit on a new method--stop or at least reduce the fan during lockdown. The Rippy Method. An astonishing number of chicks!

I'm only on day 5 of my first hatch this year. DH is frowning at more chicks, and I would like to unload a few.

I was actually thinking maybe the fan should be linked in with the thermostat.... they would get much less air movement. Just not sure you need it at all... they have still air incubators... do they use a fan at lockdown?
