Incubators Anonymous

gotta love having a roo guy! I have a guy that will buy every one I have. He likes his "old fashioned chicken" a lot but doesn't want to raise them himself anymore. The Roos go in a tractor and feed cost for them is very very low. They get a lot of veggie and fruit scraps from the store that I work at.
My DH is my roo guy. I point out which ones have to go and while I am at work, they end up in the freezer all nicely packaged!

9/12 on my Polish Tolbunt eggs hatched out last night. 4/4 of my Bantam eggs from my own hen. Great hatch again for me! Now with my other hatch that will be due next week. I have 2 incubators going. At least it's not 3 any more lol.

Today I lost to of my older chicks by the wind blowing a board over onto them crushing my golden laced wyandotte female and a silver laced wyandotte female. I was so upset I feel so bad about it happening to them. Now I need to find a golden laced wyandotte or eggs. I want it to be pure breed and no mix. If anyone knows someone please let me know. It was my only female that I had for the matching rooster I have.

We eat a few Roos here and there but most of our chicken is the cx that we raise. We almost always have some that are around butcher size so we just butcher and eat fresh!

Don't worry you will have that third bator fired back up in no time! Sorry about the loss!

Quote: Donna you must have some hardy BR!! THough the OE and Cm had great hatching rates also!!
My best hatches come from the BCM BR and NH.... almost always 100%. Olive Eggers are tougher (I can't see in them AT ALL for some reason I can just tell it is dark) and the cuckoos are harder not sure why. Ameraucans are the HARDEST! I have rearranged pens and will be supplementing with Vitamins in the water and in about a month or so I will start hatching them again. MAYBE I will have some new layers too

I have several splits about to come of age and a couple of Lavenders too.

Quote: My roo guy grows them up. He will take them when they don't need heat anymore or as soon as I can tell they are roos. I give them to him, he will sell them in the fall and that will buy his kids Christmas.... so that is a good thing..... and he promised me a Tom Turkey for the holidays..... I think I love fresh Turkey..... I will get my neighbor to help process it... he is a hunter.

out of sight out of mind! It is just too much trouble to process to me. I get my chicken at Sams already cooked for $5. All I can sell a simi grown roo for is $5 and he cost me more than that in feed..... GOTTA GO ASAP.
