not really that into them either. I don't even know what colors I have LOL. They are for eating bugs and breeding for the next gen. 68 acres to clear of bugs.... I need more guinea, next year though. Done for this year.
My chickens do a great job, and I see my ducks off in the woods eating goodies from under the leaf litter. DH reports that we have less flies this year , he thinks due to chickens. I hear of many people getting them for tick patrol. I wonder if anyone has actually compared guineas and chickens for that job.

I can't free range my chickens. So they are not an option for bug control. Guinea can fly to get away from predators and are good guard dogs. I would not be worried about the guinea as much as chickens. I have thought about free ranging roos, but just don't really want to deal with them and catching them to get rid of them.

My crew heads off in different directions led by a rooster. Everyone is back for dusk. I've been suprised how well they survive in my woods complete with coyote, fox and more. The FBCM range the furthest out.

I have seven guineas that are 7 weeks old and I let them free range with my laying hens and various chicks ages 5 to 8 weeks. Those all get along fine and the guineas come back to the coop and go into their section at night. I think they have been following the lead of the other birds. The only problem is that my 5 month old bantam rooster attacked one a couple times. I couldn't tolerate that so my roo is now living in his bachelor pad. A little lonely for him but there is peace in the yard and coop! Good luck with your guineas.

On a side note, a neighbor down the road has guineas and her neighbors are thrilled with the reduced number of ticks in their yards. One neighbor told me that her dogs came in with ticks on them every day and now she doesn't find a tick once a week. That's why I am raising them for the first time. Hope they work that well for me!

they go to bed just like everyone else would, once they learn where home is... why not free range them. you need to catch them just wait until dark or before you let them out in the morning. it's what i do. 8)

ok anyone ever had multiple broodies share babies? i've got 2 girls that have insisted on broody-ing the same single blue plastic easter egg for a couple weeks now, and i'm contemplating giving them the next hatch... thoughts or suggestions?

Has anyone been having an unuasual amount of detached air cells on shipped eggs lately? I have thrown out so many eggs recently it makes me sick. Does it being warmer (hot) make it worse? I have gotten somewhere around 4 or 5 dozen eggs shipped to me recently and I think there are only about 15 that weren't scrambled or detached. The best rate as far as getting hatch able eggs is from ki4got. 4 of the 8 sg dorking she sent are developing fine, and some quail that have 6/12 developing.

I have someone that wants to trade some Blrw and Bo eggs for one of my lg bators but I am hesitant because I am afraid I will get a bunch of unhatchable eggs and end with nothing for the bator
