Well I moved some birds around, one of which was my Good Shepard BR roo. While I was moving I realized I had a barred pullet I could put with him so he could practice and he KNEW EXACTLY what to do with her. So I don't know what was going one. Maybe I need to add the hens to HIS pen and not him to THEIR pen.

I put another roo in with them, so we will see what happens with him. Maybe he will be more dominate and get me some fertile eggs. If not I am going to do some TRIMMING!

I got chicks today.... not as many as I had hoped but most were shipped eggs. No GNH

not even a pip. Only 7 Cuckoo Marans. 2 BLRW from shipped eggs (splash both of them) and 2 from MINE

.

These are from my Foley Birds.

Cuckoos

Shipped BLRW... one is almost solid, not much chipmunking at all.

WHere did you find these cuckoos?? And how is the egg color and size???

My boys, all 6, have no gold on them yet. Nice size bird, good for a good meal compared to hatchery sized fowl.

I have one from that batch. I do like the ones I got from you though. Waiting for the other shoe to drop so I know what I am dealing with. Overall I really like them. Fast growth, larger size. Know I don't need so many roosters, but not sure yet which to cull. In the mean time I am eyeing a number of Ameracanas to roast.

Just a thought... keep one of my roos and put over the other pullets. He will give body size and egg size and color (I think my eggs are a tad darker) to ALL the chicks. I am going to be over flowing with cuckoos soon. I have a Marans friend that found me someone in TX with SQ Cuckoos.... I had to buy some.

Only 8 chicks, but he has good egg color too. By Spring I might have a good start in Cuckoos this time. They are HARD to find with everything you need, feathered legs, good type and egg color

they are going up for approval next year so there may be a demand for some with ALL those qualities.
