My April 1 hatch of olive eggers is considered a fail. I set 29 eggs. BCM x Ameraucana. I was so busy with another hatch on the 18th day of the OE that I forgot to put the eggs in the hatcher in the morning. They did not get put in until about 10 that night. Next morning out of habit., I opened the hatcher at 6 a.m. to add water...BIG oops. I quickly closed it and duct taped the lid closed.

The 5th chick hatched on the 22nd day and is very weak. First 4 are strong. The rest were dead in the shell and I am attributing it to my 2 errors.

I wonder if humidity is causing a problem too. The digital thermometer in my Genesis 1588 is new this year. When I checked the temperature using TWO egg thermometers... the temp was 100 in all three gauges. Checked the humidity by putting 4 accurite therm/hygrometers (yes I am aware they are junk) in it and the junk accurite were all 10% higher than what the incubator said. Just to my new incutherm hatch monitor and it is showing that two of my incubators are 18% more than what the incubator hygrometer shows.

Any suggestions?

This is the most complete information I've found and everyone that hatches should peruse it.

My #1 suggestion is to have 2 guaranteed accurate thermometers.
These are my favorites that aren't prohibitively expensive.

All hygrometers need to be calibrated. Rather than use one, I weigh the eggs before and during incubation then graph their weight loss. With proper humidity, they should lose about 0.65% weight each day or 13% over the 21 days.
