"Incuview" Incubator

Some people hatch shipped eggs in cartons due to compromised air cells.

I have this incubator and love it. Had my first 100% hatch in it early fall the first time I used it. (Haven't used it since; 25 eggs in now.)

I had heard that the hygro wasn't accurate BUT the ones they are sending out now have a different one (digital) that I have tested against another and it's very accurate.

Also not sure why the person up there has it on a sleeping bag? Mine holds steady (within 0.5 degrees, but it only varies by that much for a few minutes, tops) to set temp if it's set properly. There's a setting from ambient temp of 65-70 degrees or 70-75 degrees, etc.

I've got serama and silkie eggs in it now and have it set to 99.7 (because I heard serama need slightly higher temps) and I've occasionally seen it read 99.5 or 100.1, but it will re-stabilize to set temp as I watch.

Hi There,

I know this is an old post, but I'd love to resurrect it, if possible, as I'd love updates and I'm interested in the same things!

I've been going through BYC posts to determine which incubator to buy. My gut wants to go with IncuView which is what is discussed here. I am wondering if there's been more opportunities to use your IncuView and if you are still pleased. Is there anything I should know? I probably will only hatch 5-10 eggs (my first attempt) but I am quickly becoming a chicken addict so I don't think I will be happy with hatching less than 10 in the future.

I'm hoping also to find out about hatching Swedish Flower Hen eggs. I have had a couple SFH and I really like them. I would like more but I hear that they are trickier to hatch than other breeds and tend to need a drier hatch method. My "Test Hatch" will be a few mixed breed from my own flock. Though, I've been hearing fun things about hatching Trader Joe eggs and I must admit I am tempted to try.

Would love input! I do love hatching under broody but the timing is not always ideal.

Hi! Keep us posted on how it goes :) I just got one of these for christmas so I will be posting when I get some eggs to put in it (North Dakota so not till march or April) I did check out the youtube reviews and videos before I chose this one. Fingers crossed & happy hatching!

My own eggs, I weighed them to determine humidity but used the built-in hygrometer, which I had tested prior to use. Do not have the humidikit.
Ok. Thank you! I'm afraid I'll have to use shipped eggs this year for my guineas but I'm going to do a test run with the neighbors chicken eggs. What do you mean you weighed them to test humidity?

Controlling humidity is to control moisture/weight loss of the egg. Ideally you want about 13% of the eggs weight at laying to be lost by lockdown.

If the egg loses more than 18% or less than 10% it will have problems.

So, I weighed eggs at setting, 7 days, and 14 days to determine humidity.

My eggs had lost too much by 7 days so I raised it from 7-14 days. They’d then not lost quite enough by lockdown, so I waited an extra day before raising lockdown humidity.

I had the majority of eggs (19) at about 13% by lockdown but 3 had not lost enough and 2 had lost too much. I ended up assisting a few of those.

There’s variation in egg porosity which effects how much they lose.

Forgot to post. I had a 100% hatch in February with my brand new Incuview. Loved it! I used my own fertile eggs. I only set 5 because it was just an experiment before I buy expensive hatching eggs. I followed dry hatch instructions meaning no water at all until I saw internal pip. The chicks actually arrived early and I was glad I had candled them as I had considered waiting another day to check for lockdown status.

Only concern I had was that once I added water for lockdown, my humidity levels were hard to control. A little water caused extreme humidity. Then it quickly dried up. Everyone told me not to worry, that once the first egg hatched, that chick would create more humidity. My chicks are all healthy and happy. 2 roos and 3 pullets. My gorgeous blue roos need a home, sadly. Mom is blue Ameraucana (she is recovering from fox attack... https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/is-my-hen-in-shock-after-attack.1235830/page-2 )
Dad is a Jersey Giant. Both friendly breeds. Awesome babies!

Very happy with Incuview.
