Incuview -- Shut Down

After months of reading about raising and hatching quail and building a 3ft x 11ft 2-tiered home for them, I am sad to report that my incubator died 9 days into my first batch of quail. I was using Incubator Warehouse's Incuview. Everything had been working well. Temperature and humidity remained stable. I started with 49 quail eggs and 8 were infertile. The rest were candled last night and showed great development.

I went to check the humidity and the incubator was running, then suddenly shut off. I checked the plug and tried a different outlet, unplugged it from the motor and adapter and plugged it back in. It was dead. I realized all my hard work was going to result in 41 dead birds in their eggs. Family were planning on coming over to watch the hatch on 10-25. I ran through some options. Was there a replacement adapter I could go buy? I googled the product number but nothing came up. I then decided to put the eggs under the brooder lamp and head to the store to buy another incubator. I positioned the heat lamp as best as I could. Some eggs were reading 95 and others 110, but it was the best I could do.

The first store was IFA Country Stores, it was the closest. They didn't have an automatic turner. Onto the next store, which had a Farm Innovator's 4200. Brought it back home and set it up. This thing is huge and ugly. I poured some water in it and it leaked. I guess it isn't like the Incuview and water can only be poured in the middle. I'm going to sell it as soon as I reach day 18. I expect 3-5 to hatch, if that. I put the eggs in the new incubator.

I'll update on 10-25 and let you know how many hatched.

Sorry to hear about this

Those little eggs are more resilient than you would think, don't give up on them! The ones at 110 may have been lost, but the ones that stayed below 104 are probably okay. They can handle some cooling. They may a bit late though.

I called Incubator Warehouse and told customer service rep what happened. I told him I could send him a picture but he said that wasn't necessary. He apologized and said another power supply is being sent. I asked him if this has happened before to other customers and he said yes.

I'm so sorry how heartbreaking. Maybe some will still hatch, keep us updated.

Twelve chicks hatched. Three had to be culled because of foot/leg problems that were related to the Farm Innovator not holding accurate temperature/humidity. One died a few hours after hatching for no apparent reason (it was walking then collapsed. I waited about ten seconds then picked it up and it took its last breath a few seconds later).

I'll bet you have a decent hatch even with the adverse conditions. My last incubation run saw the power go out twice, the first time for 13hrs, the temp got down to about 60F. The second time was for about 7 hours I don't know how cool it got. My hatch rate was still 85%.

Don't fret it probably won't be a total failure.

Darn that sucks.

I'll be building a homemade incubator over the next few months to replace my borrowed Noah's arc vintage sportsman with no turners. I've been seriously considering redundant systems for the heating circuit, your experience pushed me over the edge. 2 systems is better than 1.
