Hi, my family and I recently adopted two ducklings and chicks into our family.

It was originally thought we had a cayuga and pekin duck, but as they've aged I'm concluding that they are both Indian Runners. One is solid black with some blueish tint on the wings, and the other is a fawn & white runner.
we got the black one alone from a local pet and feed shop, he was the last duckling and was trying to get out through the class to the baby chicks. he was fairly big when we got him, I'd say 2 or 3 weeks.
our fawn one was a baby when we got her (she was from somewhere else, went to get our black one a companion) and she was significantly smaller.

Now, I don't know their genders, but I'm assuming our black is a drake, and the fawn is female.
Our fawn one sorta quacks, she's fairly loud when I come near her and she's very protective of her "flock" (black duck and some of our chickens), and she's very nervous around me. she makes a softer quacking noise whenever I let them free roam and she's eating grass, bugs, or treats that I throw to them.

our black one doesn't make much noise from what I've observed. he's bigger in size, but I'm not sure if that's because he's a couple weeks older. he's much calmer around me, as a duckling he loved to be handled unlike our fawn. i've also noticed a slight feather perking up on his tail.

they are both around the age of 2 - 3 months

I've included some photos but I don't have great ones since they both still are very nervous around me and won't come up to me unless I'm sitting for a long period of time & have food.

Both pics are blurry, sorry.
The 1st pic is to show the fawn duck - is she a runner? I'm almost positive, she looks identical to the fawn & white runners online.
now the 2nd pic is to show the black ducky. he has a small feather sorta curling up - would he be a drake?
do you think he's a runner? or could he be a different breed? (when we got him @ 2-3 weeks old he was all black)

also, do you recommend letting them free range? Once our chickens are bigger we want to let them free roam during the day so their coop doesnt get as messy. but they are too small right now and we have cats in the neighborhood- 4 or 5 currently.

Thanks!
