Hello I have 2 Indian runner ducks that I have had for a little over 1 year. One male and one female. We live on a lake in NJ. At first they were kept in a large dog run. After a few weeks we let them go in the back yard during the day and put them back at night. We did this for 2 months. Then we let them go in the yard to swim on the lake during the day, then put them away at night. They would come home every night for about 4 months. Then they just stop coming home. We didn't know what to do, so we kepted them in there run for awhile. They just were not happy so we let them go. It has been now about 6 month that they live on the lake. They come home about 2 times a day to eat but they live out on the lake on one of the small islands. Just in the past 3 weeks we have not see the female come home to eat to much. So we went out on the lake to see what was going on. We found her on a nest of eggs. The woman who gave them to use said they don't have babies because they don't sit on there eggs. She has not left her nest in weeks. I don't know what to do. We feed her in her nest once in a while. I don't know if she is hurt or if we will see babies. The ducks came to us because they were a rescue case. We thought because we lived on a lake we could help. But I have tried books and calling people but no one get back to me... Not even the woman who gave them to me... Please help....

Is she still sitting on the eggs? It takes longer for duck eggs to hatch than chicken eggs, so maybe everything is going right. Once they hatch she will lead them to the water and they will start swimming. Does the mate visit her at all?

She is still on the eggs. We go over to feed her and will eat then hiss at us. He is swimming all by him self. He is swimming with the geese. Do indian runner have there babies?

Indian Runners do sit on eggs and hatch babies, it just doesn't happen often. I imagine that the natural surroundings that they live in triggered the mother instinct. It takes 28 days for duck eggs to hatch so you still have another week. It really sounds like everything is fine, she just wants some babies!! Congrats btw, I have been trying to get mine to go broody for quite some time now! Feeding her is a good thing to do, broodies can and do starve themselves sitting on the nest.

Hey guys! I'm new to this thread and glad to be here. I have PLENTY of chickens right now, and am looking for Indian Runner ducklings. I live in Florida, in Volusia County. Unless you live very close to me, I would need them to be shipped as my car...I don't want to take a chance of driving it far from home. Does anyone have, or know of, anyone with IR ducklings to sell? Thank you so much!

hi, I have three Indian runner ducks that are just starting to lay do you need a nest or a private area for them to hatch.
