Hi, I'm new here and new to backyard flocks. I have 2 Indian runners that I was told were female. They definitely make the quack sound, but also have a curly tail feather. I am baffled.

Hi,
Can you post a picture? How old are they? My male runner has a curl on his tail and makes a quiet quack. The female has a little flip-up at the end of her tail and a loud quack you can hear on the other side of the property. I know that's probably not much help if they're both making the same sound.

It is hard to get a good pic. They don't want to be still. I got them at a livestock auction. The seller said she got them as day old ducklings in April. She also said they were both female. Their quack is very different from the Blue Swedish, I assume he is male BC he has a very raspy frog type noise.

They are fawn and white runners. They both look like they are males to me, usually the females have a paler face. Here is my male, born in March.

Looking at your picture more closely, they both have tail curls. Two boys! Comparing to my KC drake, it is a much smaller curl, but it is a curl still

I can't tell with the one in the back but the front looks like a young male. However I have heard a story on here about a female having a drake feather when there were no males. But that is rare and I wouldn't count on it. Do you know their age? Usually auctions are notorious for selling males as females. This is a good link that has male and female voices http://www.majesticwaterfowl.org/artquacks.htm

Another clue is the blue/green spots they get on the bills as they get older. When they hit laying age/maturity my male had a couple of specks on his bill and the female a ton. His stayed that way but hers is now nearly all dark.

That is the lunk I was going off of when I guessed they were ducks. Their quack sounds exactly like the female clip, but the drake feather has me super confused! Lol. Thanks for all the input, maybe it will just be a case of wait and see.
