I butchered a handful of cornish x's last fall. It wasn't so bad. I hated the actual killing part but the cleaning wasn't too bad. For some reason I think it would be harder to have to cull a dual purpose breed or a chicken that wasn't white. I have a blue and a black orp cockerels and possibly a few EE roos that will eventually meet this fate. Unless one of you want them.

I just can't do it with chickens I've had since chicks!

I end up taking them to swaps even knowing what will happen to them, but at least I don't have to do it.
Recently had to put a hen out of her misery and found that I'm not even an efficient mercy killer; I think that I caused her even more pain before it was over.

I had originally posted a topic in this same section, but was suggested that I post here. This is in the hopes that more people will see what I'm trying to do. My MIL and I are putting together a 4-H Poultry Fest. This is for 4-her's in our county and surrounding counties. We will be having a variety of poultry,eggs,crafts,and supplies.We also will serve lunch(chicken related items) and be having raffles. We are trying to find anybody that would like to come and set up.If you are interested please contact me with your information. We have a love for poultry and 4-H.
