I think your idea is great!

Oh good, I was worried about him overheating in this weather we have been having.

Chseeads, you have all sorts of things I want! Definitely put me down for 3 turkeys. One of them will be Thanksgiving dinner and the other two will be insurance.

What age do you recommend getting to grow a good-sized but not astronomically huge bird by November? They will be free ranging. And can you tell me what colors your guineas are that you have available? So far I have 2 royal purple, one buff dundotte (I think) and 15 pearls. I'd like to round them out a bit. And if I had housing for muscoveys I'd be all over those too. Do you have pics of yours? Maybe next year...

I would say some of the older group I have then.... I don't think any of them will be huge by November.... I got poults last year around the end of July/first of August (which are my parent breeder birds now), and I actually thought they were pretty skinny still at Thanksgiving time. I recall because I was selling off my extra toms in the fall I didn't really think they were big enough for eating at that point....

They had a good sized frame by then, but weren't very filled out I didn't think.

The ones I have that are a month old already might be fairly decent though.

In the older group of guineas there's a lavendar, a lavendar pied, two that are really light colored, not pure white but I don't know what they'd classify as, lol...and I can't remember what the other one is at the moment. LOL And then I have some of the younger groups that are pearl pied and sky blue I think and I dunno what else. The younger ones I have on hand right now I didn't hatch myself...I have a neighbor that raises birds and we've been swapping some babies back and forth lately. I have a few more guineas that will be hatching. Out of what I have hatched so far, mine have thrown quite a few lavendar or what have you.

I'll get a pic of the muscovies next time I go outside if I don't forget. LOL I've got 5 muscovies left at the moment.

I'll be bringing Black Copper Marans and Blue Marans. Not sure how many boys and girls I have at the moment, but I got my eggs from Erik at Monkeyingaroundfarms, and the BCM eggs he send me were so dark they were nearly black, I was VERY pleased. The Blue Marans eggs were in a light cycle, but even those were darker than any brown eggs I currently get from my hens. They can produce BCM, Blue Coppers, and Blues. Beautiful, robust little chicks, I'm very pleased with these chicks. I probably have more cockerels than pullets, but the cockerels are GORGEOUS.

hey china, where did you get your white silkies from? im in the market for another pullet.

The 2 week old chicks I have right now came from cjexotics. They are such pretty babies too, very sweet natured. I love that no matter which one I pick up, the moment I set them down on my chest, they go straight to sleep. They snuggle right up and close their eyes. Real sweethearts. My older Silkie chicks (there are 3), I got their parents last year from Cackle. Sweet little birds.

Good mornining all..... Its so close I can taste it (all the yummy pot luck foods

) .. CAnt wait to see old friends and make some new ones...

HEy Chseeads... You wouldnt happen to have 30 poults for sale that would be ready to process by Nov 17th would you.. I am desperatly trying to find birds to fill a meat order and the butcher date is Nov 17th .. I think i can push some BBB or BBW's and get em to size in time but thought if you have that many I would much rather support my friends and buy from them ..

Those of you who have guineas, I have a question. I was wanting a couple guineas to keep with my chickens, that are free range, to help warn them when a hawk or something is around. Then I read a message from someone who had to get rid of their guineas because they were holding the chickens down and eating their combs and picking on them. Do guineas and chickens get along or not?
