Ahh, I see. I've been wanting to put up a greenhouse forever now. I was just looking at greenhouse kits online and it seems that when money starts growing on trees I should be able to afford one!

We're really enjoying the birds we got at chickenstock. We're getting to know each of their little personalities, and we're having sooooo much fun with the ducklings! The little Call we got, she is such a character! We named her Charlotte. She has stolen everyone's heart so much, I even wrote another children's book about her. She likes to come sit with us in the living room. She acts like she owns the place, lol. Oddly though, none of the ducklings want to swim. But the Cayuga/Runners like when I put them in the tub and hold the shower head over them. They play under it and slide around, and they're so funny to watch. Everyone is getting their feathers in now, and they all look so cute. Corey, we're really getting to know Buffy, and she really is a "take charge" kind of woman! She has more personality than I thought she would, and she really is a sweet girl. The Seramas, oh my gosh, I get SUCH a kick out of the little roo!!! He has the cutest crow I've ever heard! He's such a good little boy too, takes excellent care of his ladies. My daughter named them Elizar (the roo), Carmen, and Tanya. She loves them to pieces. Carol, the little mixed pullet we got from you, we couldn't have asked for a sweeter bird. My daughter named her Girdy, and I sit in the evenings with her sleeping on my chest. She's so sweet! The little D'Anver pullet cracks me up. She's my complainer. She's the first one in the morning to start complaining that she wants to go outside, and she will complain until she gets her way. She's a character. The little Silkie is sweet as can be, and so is the Mille/Silkie mix. My mom fell in love with the Mille mix. My younger DD named her Sabrina. Really hoping it IS a Sabrina.

I wish I had a car. I should have gotten two Call ducklings when I had the chance, but I let my mom pick out the birds, and she chose the Swedish mix instead of another Call, and we had no idea we were going to fall so head over heels in love with our little Charlotte. I'd love to get another one. I'll definitely be getting some next year!

Well, I have not had as good of luck as China Chicken Mom with my chicks I got at Chickenstock, or at least one anyway. I lost one of the little five week old Polish to Cocci. I have everyone on medicated feed for now and no one else is showing signs of Cocci. The little Polish that got injured is doing great and growing like a weed. I have named him Phoenix, and he loves to be held. I have him in a separate cage as the other chicks pick on him. The little white silkie I got from China Chicken Mom is the worse. It leaps on his back like a little velociraptor and starts pecking him. Then the others start pecking him. I hope as he gets bigger, I will be able to put him with them. China Chicken Mom, Clem is a doll baby and I love him. He is so beautiful and he is crowing up a storm now from dawn to dusk, and he is getting a comb, wattles, and his blue ears are getting tinged with red. Really cool! The white silkie does not want to be held much, need to work with it. I just do not have a lot of time to hold it with working. But I do hold each one every evening. The blue spotted Silkie is even shyer, so needs even more work. I was wondering, the blue spotted silkie has only four toes on each foot. Does this happen with silkies sometimes? The black silkie/polish mix is gorgeous. So shiny and tinged with iridescent green all over. He also is shy, but once picked up settles right down in my lap. I named her Ebony.
Now, if they would just quit pooping on my shirts. I must change shirts four times an evening.

I just hope I will be able to integrate them into my flock of Buff Orpingtons and Wyandottes, which are all going to be bigger then any of my new ones, especially the Buff Orpington Rooster. I really do not want to lose any of the little ones to being picked on by bigger ones. I know I have to wait till they are older. The youngest is the polish chick at 6 weeks old now. Clem is the oldest at 5 months.

He was cute wasn't he! I love my little Serama boy!

He is precious! You did a wonderful job with him. I already have a chicken living inside right now and he deserves more than a small puppy crate or I would have bought him on the spot.

I'm glad Clem makes you happy. So he's crowing? I wish I could have heard that. He wasn't crowing yet here. The little white one is being a punk? So sorry! It was a perfect angel here, and I used to pick it up and walk around with it all the time. I dunno what it is, but we called it Hildi. We got into the habit of naming our Silkies with H names, but we kinda ran out of H names, lol. So sorry you lost one of your Polish's to Cocci. That's a very scary illness and they can die so quickly. I'm glad the rest are doing ok though. And that white Silkie is gonna get knocked down a peg once a pecking order is established, and then knocked down another peg once all the new birds get introduced to your original flock. It should mellow out eventually. Especially with the mother it has. She's the sweetest thing God put on this Earth and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Unless you are a nosy chihuahua and come peeking into her box, lol. I hope you get many years of happiness out of both Clem and Hildi, and the rest of your birds.

If I'd had the opportunity to get more Serama pullets that day, I probably would have snatched up that little Serama roo myself, he was amazing! I loved the look he gave me when I spoke to him, as though he had no fear. He was so calm and well behaved, I loved it. I'd love to have a roo that laid back. Don't get me wrong, I have some pretty awesome little roosters, but none that calm and laid back. Calm yes, laid back, not so much. We're working with the little Seramas we did get in hopes that they will eventually grow to at least like us. The poor little roo, my daughter named him Elizar, if I set him on the counter he just freezes up and almost falls over. His eyes get real big and he won't move, like he's afraid I'm going to kill him, poor thing. But he's learning that when I hold him and pet him, he gets treats, so he's opening up a little. His girls are opening up faster. I'm glad too. They are so pretty, all 3 of them! No one is laying yet, but that's ok. I hope we get many happy years with them.

Chicken China Mom, Clem is a sweetie. He has a full, loud crow. Right now all the new chicks are in the spare bathroom and it is kinda cool having a rooster waking me up every morning. The white one is only being a punk when I try to put the little Polish in with them. The Polish is in a cage straddling the bathtub, so they can all see him. They all pick on it when I put it in with them, but the white silkie is the worst. I read that polish are so easy going that they are usually on the bottom of the pecking order. I am figuring that I just need to let it grow a bit more before trying again. It is growing fast. I will keep trying until they are all okay with him. The white silkie is okay with me, I just need to hold it more so it gets use to me. My job does not give me a lot of time to do so, but I make sure it gets held once a day along with the others. It just needs adjustment time, as they all do. New place, new owner, etc. I am thinking the white one may be a male. Clem has tried to mate with the blue spotted chick and the black silkie mix, so I am hoping they are females. I have not seen him try to mate the white sillkie chick, but then I am not there all the time.
I was wondering about the 4 toe thing on my other silkie. I know silkies have 5 toes, but are some born with only 4 at times.
We never got the chance to sit and talk about how to integrate the new chicks in with the bigger original flock, but I read that you should wait till they are at least 6 months old, which Clem almost is, and you should introduce them in a group, not individually. The polish chick, the youngest, will not be six months until January, and not sure if it is good to put chickens who are use to being inside, outside in the winter. Really do not want chickens in the house until next Spring. I am going to get a pen to put them outside during the day so the bigger chickens can get use to them with out being able to get to them. Any suggestions?
