Chicken China Mom, Clem and Singer(the white silkie) are doing great. Clem has stolen my heart. He is so beautiful and such a character. He never shuts up. LOL! If he isn't crowing, he is constantly clucking and fussing. We are in the process of building a separate coop for all the bantams as I am afraid to put them in with the bigger chickens, so they are all in the spare bathroom right now. Every morning when I go in to turn on the light and check on them, Clem comes flying out of the tub and starts dancing around on the floor, coming at me and clucking his little head off. It is so funny, because I just pick him up and tell him to stop it, and he just calms right down in my arms. It is just too cute. He is very protective of his little flock though.
Singer, the silkie, has gotten so big, and she sings herself and the others to sleep every night. I had no idea silkies sang such a pretty trilling song, but both of them are doing it, and my polish does it a little, but I could sit and listen to it for hours. She and the others have finally accepted Phoenix, the little polish that the rooster attacked.

Phoenix loves to sit on my arm. All his feathers have grown back without him molting first. But they are not growing on one side of his head due to scarring. So they are hanging over his right eye and driving him crazy because he can only see out of one eye. Can I trim those feathers? They don't look pretty because they hang to one side and he is just constantly flipping his head around and looks like he is insane. Poor little guy. I just didn't know if it would hurt him if I trim the feathers back. And how would I hold him still to trim them without hurting his neck? Could someone please tell me if I can do this and how.

Ebony, the black Silkie Polish mix I got is still really shy and pretty much just sits around, but she is so beautiful. At least I am hoping it and the two silkies and the polish are shes. So far Clem is the only one crowing.

I am so happy with all my little babies, and anxious to get the coop finished and get them out in the fresh air. I do take them out in the evenings, once it isn't so hot and put them in cages so they can eat grass and bugs and get some fresh air.

I'm glad they're doing so good. Silkies do trill the prettiest little songs, don't they? So are you thinking Singer is a girl now? It's probably still to early to tell. The only one I'm sure is a girl is my Sizzle Ivy. She has a Silkie father and my Frizzled Cochin hen as a mom. She's very sweet and docile.

Yes, you can trim the tips of your polish's tophat. Your best bet would be to see if you can get someone to hold him for you while you use your free hand to hold his head still. Or get him to fall asleep in your lap, and then trim quickly while he's sleeping, but that's a little dangerous. I'd use child's scissors if that were the case. But he'll be happier with his feathers trimmed back so he can see. Just realize, his feathers will need to be trimmed regularly. I know some people that put bows or other hair accessories in the tophats of their Silkies and Polishes, but I don't know how well that actually works. I'm glad Clem is doing well. He was such a sweet boy. Sounds like he's turning out to be a good little roo. I bet he's even more handsome now with the gold feathers on his neck. I'm glad you're happy with all your little babies. Good luck building your coop. I bet they'll all love it.

I am thinking that Singer is a female. Clem is constantly trying to mount her. I figure he will know if it is a female before I do. He also tries to mount the blue spotted Silkie. Clem is much older then all the other chicks.

Here are some pics. First, a couple of Clem, then one of the white silkie, with the blue behind her, and then one of each side of Phoenix's head.

Oh, and I just got my first egg. I am so excited. It is the cutest little brown egg, from my larger hens. Here is a pic.

WOW!!! Clem is GORGEOUS!!!! I can't believe how beautiful he has turned out to be!!!! I am just amazed! I think he's more gorgeous than some pure Silkies I've seen! Singer is looking sorta like a girl. I still think only time will tell for sure though. Your poor little Polish roo, I feel for him. Does his tophat now fall forward over his eye? It looks funny. I would definitely trim it and keep it constantly trimmed. He'll be much more comfortable that way. It's good seeing them. I can't wait to show my older daughter what Clem looks like now, she'll be amazed!

I agree, Clem is gorgeous. I think that the shows at fairs should have a category for mixed breeds. Cat shows have a section for household pets. I bet there are plenty of beautiful mixed chickens out there.

Yes, the feathers hang over on the right side of Pheonix's head and covers his eye and pulls his left eye open more. I will get the feathers trimmed tomorrow when hubby is here to hold him. Thanks.

Kat & Rob
Very cool looking star directly West eluminating a Red Twinkle. Shown my wife, and called my friend in Greenwood. It is the only star eluminating a Red twinkle.
I make this walk every nite and never remembered seeing it that bright. Very cool!

I agree, a mixed breed category to show off all the beautiful mixes out there would be great! Were you able to trim Phoenix's tophat? He just looked so uncomfortable with his crest all lopsided like that, poor baby. He sure is cute though!

I trimmed the feathers on Phoenix's head. I cut them back 3/4, but it is still hanging over his eye. The skin is so loose on the top of his head, maybe from the attack, but I am afraid to trim it back any further. I am afraid of catching the skin. But it is not just the feathers hanging over, it its the skin too, so tying the feathers up won't help. His skin is so white underneath the hang and it smells, but does not look infected.
I am afraid he may go blind in that eye, but don't now what else to do. I feel so sorry for him. I know it is driving him insane, but don't know what else to do, short of having surgery and hubby would never go for that on a chicken. HE is so sweet. He loves to be held, and is always so nervous because, even thought the others have accepted him, he is the low man on the pecking order and is afraid to get too close to the others. We will have the coop finished soon and they will have a fenced area to run around in, so hopefully having more room will help.
