INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Cr- yes those are buff brahma, look like my Banty buffs. I have 5 girls and 1 roo. The little spotted one might be a Millie, hard to tell from that shot. Others will have to chime in on the others but the Cruella is a pigeon. There are some really cool pigeons now!! My friend came home with so frizzle pigeons!! I want them!!!
I looked up the pigeon right after I posted this and they are amazing. I saw the frizzled ones too on the same site and I had no idea they came in so many cool shapes. In any case, I have seriously been bitten by the chicken bug. My garden might end up being one giant chicken run if I can ever find some pullets.

So we have sand in our run and we love it because it is clean, but today I picked up my blue silkie and her crop felt like a beanbag. Like it was full of sand. I gave them some fruit that had gotten soft and it was in the sand. Did she maybe just get too much sand with her scratch and fruit. What do you all think? She is acting fine. Her crop just feels weird.

Well, unless we get really lucky our flock is officially down to 9 from 10. Tansy (GLW) is MIA. I let them all free range last night from about 4-8 and when I got home she was nowhere to be seen. Walked all over looking for her and was really hoping she'd turn up when the sun was going down, but nothing. I feel like the scare with Annabeth kind of prepared me for this, but it still really stinks. Let everyone in the run today and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that maybe she'll show up. I'm guessing either a hawk or coyote as there is no sign of her anywhere. I just find it strange that my neighbors chickens are in a run without a top and nothing seems to be bothering them. I don't think I'm dealing with a broody hen or anything as she's only 13 weeks old and hasn't even started laying yet. Who knows.... I think we'll keep everyone locked up in the run for a bit and see if we can't figure out what happened.

Houdini, one of my Appenzeller hens who is an escape artist, disappeared for several days. Then one day I saw her in the pen with my Brahmas; discovered she is spending quality time with them and sneaking back into the Appenzeller pen to roost. So don't give up hope yet!

All this talk about buff brahmas... I have a rooster but I'd really like a hen. I have a couple light brahmas. The lady in Trafalgar gas a golden laced buff which turns out is not what I'm looking for. If anyone breeds them and has chicks in the spring let me know!! :)

Cool! I have a lot of ameraucanas. I am the process of setting up my breeding program. They are my favorite breed.[/quote
I just got blue ameraucanas in March but one of turned out to be blue wheaten (the roo) and the other one was blue but she got scissors beak so I can't breed her but I got some blue ameraucana eggs in the icubator right now

Quote: Awesome! I love seeing more people getting into this breed. I also love easter eggers. I think they just have great pesronalitlies. I had a cross beak chick too, but it died. I wasnt going to breed her either because it can be passed on gentetically. All of mine that I hatched recently turned out to be all pullets! Which is a total bummer, because now I dont have a rooster. I raise blue, black, and splash.

If you need a LF ameraucana roo, I have a black one I could part with.

Good idea. When it happened to me first I thought (or was hoping) it was a fluke but that dang thing just seemed to get braver as time went on. My neighbor friend likes to shoot and the coyote that I think was responsible wondered over into his yard and he shot at it. He thought he had missed but I never had a problem after that.

I KNOW! I thought I wouldn't have a predator problem as long as I had them put up during the day. Its been true for the most part, but I guess coyotes are a little braver than most.
Coyotes can get really bold when they have never been shot at.
