INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Anybody have experience with white rocks? My 18 month old hen is going through her molt but she can barely walk. She just crawls short distances.
400

My hens have also been picking on her and in feel sorry for her because she can't get away. Her brother is fine and everyone else just not her.

If they havent already sold them, Ideal Poultry has a special on assorted guineas. Minimum order is 25 keets for $1.75 each! Must call them at 800-243-3257 to place order. This is a great deal!

CRSelvey~ I suppose you're inquiring about OldSalt's Cochins so you can demonstrate to your DH that spending so much time on the coop was worthwhile. : - )
Also, when your DH is ready to build a Goat Villa, jchny has experience with different breeds of goats.

He actually doesn't care what we do out there as long as his part of the work is done soon and we don't talk about it for every conversation.

I think he even secretly likes them (or so I tell myself). I worry that the 2, maybe 3, girls that we have will be getting terrorized by the 3-4 boys when they get more mature. I need to start filling in the openings just to keep the peace in the run and Cochins are pretty cute. We are getting rid of 2 boys at Poultry fest, so that will help. They are scrappy little banties and they fight all the time and annoy my Lucy. I'm not sure if she will ever get much bigger, but she's pretty gentle and they aren't. I should have room for a total of 6-10 hens depending on their size and temperament. I'm just hoping that the keeper boys can continue to live in peace. Is that asking too much? Probably.

By the way, when I first saw a chicken like the one above, I wasn't a fan. Its funny how a few months changes things because now I think its just adorable!

Well I have 5 minutes to spare.. so here goes....

Loving all the new pictures... Realizing with the turkeys gone how much extra chicken space I have... I see mass amounts of bantam cochins in my future.

Jchnny - Hope the turkeys are doing well, I can not believe Momma laid an egg so soon. Guess she really wants those babies. My wee one really enjoyed himself at your place, would not stop talking about the goats, he thought they were great. He also had a soft spot for the little game birds too I noticed. It was a pleasure to be there and I am impressed with the vast amounts of birds you have. Keep us posted on the turkeys.

Mother - The stand is going great, taking up a lot of my daylight time. Do not remember it being this time consuming last year, but I guess that's a good thing, means we are doing something right. Your girls are looking stunning. Hopefully some outside time will heal Violet up in no time.

Pip - The pictures continue to make me melt.. So adorable. Looking at Po makes me think all my cochins are girls. None have a big combs (although they are now red). Keep using Po pictures to judge.

Kitinwest - Welcome to the thread!!

Brad - Gosh darn it stop offering your chickens... You know how hard I have to refrain myself from shooting you a PM to make real enquires.

Many congrats to all the have recently placed in the shows!

I know I have missed out bunches had 20 pages to scroll back through. I am trying. Not liking this working hard thing, interrupts my chicken time darn it.

Well my EE's egg laying is off to a great start. She has laid one every day for 4 days now. Beautiful green/blue coloured eggs too. All be it on the small side. The picture is two of her eggs and one from my RIR's. The bullseye on the big yolk is the epitome of fertile. Also noticed the two EE eggs were also fertile. Guess the Mille bantam and LF EE's can happen

.. Who'd thunk it!

Also cleaned out the turkey run and put my two Lavenders and two EE's in there. The lavenders are still really skittish of the other birds, even though they have been in a run next to the main flock for over three weeks total (also in with them before I removed them). Think I am going to have to stage the merging to two birds every other day. If they can not get over it I may have to find them a new home. Hate for them to be bullied due to being so nervous.

Still trying to find homes for my roosters. No such luck. I did have them listed on the BST and not a peep of interest, so they are now back on Craigslist. Can not get my coops organized properly with them here as it will leave them all together and with the lack of ladies I think that may cause issues soon.

So after asking peoples advice with sexing a few of my chickens I am now convinced I have a male and female Lavender (Think seeing Jchnny's birds helped).
The cochins I am sure 2 are female one that I am not sure about. We are going on 15-16 weeks now and after seeing Pip's 10 week old Po, makes me think all mine are girls. Wish I could make a firm decision

so I can shop around properly for a rooster for them. Obviously will not have to do that if one of them is already a boy.

Animal lover and Megan- congrats on your wins!! Good job!!!

Vicki- my neighbor has bantam Cochins for sale. Want me to get a list?

Well I called the sherif to report the chicken masicure! Had a neighbor deputy call me back and come see me. Well guess what..... The dogs that got my 2 BO's a few months back......well they got out yesterday!!!!!! Duh!!!! What does it take to get thru people's heads!!!! I know some of you have had the same problems. I expect to lose some to wildlife but neighbors dogs is infuriating!!! Deputy told me to take care of it(shoot and kill) and dispose of the problem(bury)!!! I told him that was my plan!!! If we' only had a witness yesterday!!

Fantastic news! She is a doll

We use the washed
natural sand they sell at the landscaping place. Its construction grade. Low silica. Thanks for all of your help. She is my little kitten.

That's good news to hear! She's very beautiful.
Thanks everyone! Ashes is a blue bearded silkie. I just went and checked on her and she was her normal cuddly self, with a normal crop. So she is still doing fine. Lol John!! I didn't see any extra lumber in the coop today, but if I had my husband would have been very happy! He is building a silkie coop for my four white girls, and the two blues. I got some pics today of her and Booker. So glad it has cooled off! ( I trimmed the quotes down a bit so I didn't take up a full page with this post. )
