Thank you for the advice. I have always done a lot of research about my pets before bringing them home until the chickens. If I would have known how they would consume my day, I'm not sure I would have brought them home, but I love them anyway. The ducks, turkeys, and goats will have to wait until the pain my DH feels over building me our awesome coop has faded. He's a little overwhelmed with how the chickens have taken over our days and our conversations lately. I'm afraid of what would happen to him if I added more so quickly, lol. My son might get two ducks next spring if they can live with the chickens and the goats will be years away when they can take care of them on their own. We also like to travel a lot and we have to take that into consideration when adding more to the family. Who will care for them when we are gone? Do we really get to go now that our kids are in school? We will figure it out slowly this time around.I got behind againbut think I'm caught up now. I'm sorry I'm still having problems keeping track of who's who and who posted what and I can't quote so I'm going to do the best I can. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Julie sorry to hear about your predator problem. Its hard to fix when you don't no what your dealing with. I agree get a game cam or something if you can. But I'm with everyone else and think it sounds like a dog. Good luck I hope you figure it out and don't give up on having birds. I have felt like that a time or to also though. To everyone who's posted pics- I think they are all cute. Did someone say the bird that looks like its wearing a cape with a collar in the fair pics is a quail? If so what type is it? If not then what is it? Its very interesting. CR I believe you posted the fair pics and was saying your kids want turkeys, ducks, and goats now? They sound like my kids. Lol I have turkeys and love them. I have ducks ( bc my son wanted them) and they are so funny! I have goats also and may I suggest doing your research b4 you decide on a breed? And also if or when u decided be sure your ready for them. I thought I was when I got mine and they taught me real fast that I wasn't. Lol they are excellent escape artist and good jumpers I've learned. My buck would run across the lot jump on to the brace for the gate posts and leap right over the fence. My doe is an expert at getting her head stuck in the fence. They are always into something! And John I wish I lived closer ( and I wasn't forbidden to get anymore chickens right now) lol oh I tried to click the link to see someones snake collection but of course my phone would not cooperate. But I like ball pythons. My bfs son has 2 normals. I've been checking out the purple passions. There are some amazing morphs out there! On another note. I seen a fb post some days ago that had a chicken on it ( along with a caption I wont quote due to foul language but part of it said I'm a penguin) has anyone else sen it? I want to no what kind of chicken that is! It reminded me of a runner duck bc of its stance but it was definitely a chicken. Anyone have any ideas?![]()
I think we will be back today or tomorrow, so that sounds like a good idea. My son is already asking how he can show his "chicken little" and he's 5. I don't know anything about the 4-H rules, but I think its shortly going to be part of our life. My son's chicken isn't anything close to a show bird, but its great that he is interested. We'll see if it sticks. When you are done with all the fair stuff, I'd love to know what pullets you have available. The 2 buff Brahmas are my nephews, They are from my birds, His rooster won Best in show.
The pigeon is my daughters, he won Champion Pigeon, he is a Jacobin.
The little speckled on is a golden neck booted bantam, I donated them to the raffle last year to raise money for the poultry club, there will be more raffle birds in there tomorrow. Anyone can buy tickets, you don't have to be a 4-Her.
Old Salt- I am still very interested in your cochins. Do you know how many of the pullets Emily wants? Ideally, I'd like two, but as there are three, I wouldn't want to leave one lonely. I could come pick them up on Friday during the day if you are around. I have to go to Indy to meet my MIL in the morning (who is taking my little ones for the weekend) so I could come home the long way to get them.
