Everyone, please note that articles about using sand for chicken litter, dust baths, etc. specify construction sand or river sand (sand that includes pebbles and stones) because Play Sand is too fine and can cause respiratory and other health problems.

I've attached an article from the owner of BYC that describes a possibility of a crop problem due to eating sand. What type of sand do you use?So we have sand in our run and we love it because it is clean, but today I picked up my blue silkie and her crop felt like a beanbag. Like it was full of sand. I gave them some fruit that had gotten soft and it was in the sand. Did she maybe just get too much sand with her scratch and fruit. What do you all think? She is acting fine. Her crop just feels weird.
