INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

There are so many good snide remarks that can be done with this, I think I'll use several.

Drat! I thought it was aimed better than that. It was supposed to land in your passenger seat. Your tinfoil hat must have messed up the homing signal.

I am jealous. I didn't get to see the alien vehicle re-entry. Rats!

I'm one of those people that get up at 4 or 5 AM during the Persides(sp?) meteor shower. Hate to have missed such a good one.

John

Now that you mention it, maybe it was the reflection off the window off my tinfoil hat from the moon as I was driving.............naw, couldn't be.

Did you have a good view of the Persieds this last August? It was supposed to be a killer show. We tried, but Natalie (11) got freaked out by the deer in the cemetary we were in that night, at midinight. Kyle (8) thought it was cool, he kept telling his big sister it was really a zombie, not a deer.

That is good to hear. Of the two grays with the light head, one seemed much worse. Were both of them bad or just one? She was VICIOUS and I am hoping most of the trouble started with her. I agree that splitting them up probably helped, they are out of their element for sure. Linus is adorable and I can't WAIT to see his dance moves!

Oh, the dance moves

First, he will see who he can stand next to & not get wacked in the head. Then it's who he can sunbathe, dust bathe, eat next to.Then on to tidbitting. Who will look at the pretty pebble he offers, the tasty grasshopper, the blade of grass?
Mighty Mouse,Linus older brother by 2 weeks, put on a tremendous dance today! He is smitten with Annie, a dainty white silkie.Sadly, Annie is not only molty but also broody. She hustled out for a quick dust bath when he spotted her & went into full John Travolta mode!
It scared her half to death, she screams and drops while he circles her wing down, head tipped just so burbling his love for her

She found her chance and bolted for the pop door, screaming bloody murder, him in hot pursuit. She beat him to the nest boxes and barricaded herself in.

In other words, it's a middle school dance

Whew made it! So apparently my calf had gorged himself on feed while we were gone Sunday. Baking soda and milk of mag fixed him right up, couldn't even tell he was sick the next morning!

My son has been really excited about blue eggs

DH had a guy about trying to find someplace to isolate the new birds so I took my chances and threw them in with everyone else. I was very surprised how well it's gone! My roo has done a great job of breaking up squabbles, surprisingly.
the separation serves other purposes besides the getting a new pecking order. If you have the space available next time, please look into the health benefits both to your flock and the new members of keeping new members in isolation.

Quote: First I'm going to sound picky. I'm sorry, but when you respond to people, it is VERY helpful to me if you type below the quote instead of in it.

Next I'm sure at this stage your chicks have lots of room in their new coop. But for the amount of heat that a red heat bulb produces the coop is small. I can use 1 and only one red heat bulb on nights like this week and next to get brooder heat conditions in a 6 ft X 8 ft shed style coop. I really think the smaller bulb like a 40 or 60 watt you can get get at the dollar store inside the metal brooder lamb shade would fit your coop's area better. And yes a cool area is good for the chicks so if you can keep one corner darker and cooler it will help them adjust faster to the cooler temps.
I would keep your plans of the large run too. Chicken math can strike hard and if you had just 1 or 2 more full size hens your coop will be overly cozy making it a feather picking area. But chicks, easily have plenty of space in your coop.

This may have already been asked, but I dont remember. What do you guys use to weigh your live chickens? I am trying to find a good scale to buy, to see if they are the approiate weight.

I don't remember exactly, but about 24" x 32".

Wow I hope that's not right. A coop that size is good enough for maybe 3 bantams. Crowded, too.

However will we cope? Does anyone on the thread know of a support group we could join until Too Fast gets back?

Am I going to have to carry the ENTIRE load of provision of the insane point of view by myself? This is too much up with which to put. (Don't end a sentence with a preposition).

I will send you a bill for my therapy.

Can you raise my window up? Or lower it down? Do you have a (hot) water heater? Or just a water heater? Oh how we humans talk, and the things we have to put up with. Don't make me go there too! Or how some would say, *to*. Why did you put that sentence there for? You better be convinced of the job you are taking on! This most definitely is not a situation that I have thought of; therefore, this behaviour (vicki) I will not put up with.

I use a rapala digital fish scale. You can hang a basket or bag off it.It worked great for my last batch of meat birds. It weighs down in the ounces too.
