I must've missed the coop size. How big is it? I allow for 4 square feet/chicken. 3-4 square feet minimum, for large fowl chickens.
I don't remember exactly, but about 24" x 32".

Urbanmom...
They'll let you know if they need heat.
My 3 wk olds are completely out from under mom - have been even when it got cold. Except at night when they go at least under a bit with their hinney's in and about half sticking out. I think mostly because they want to be sure to feel mom in the dark.
If I were brooding without a broody, I'd get an ecoglow and keep it available at night. If they need it they'll go under.

Boo HooSFH are on hold.
I've have heard also that cats bring us their trophies to "show us how its done" but I don't know how true that is...And from what I've seen/read about cats, the 'trophys' they bring for show and tell are only about 25% of what they kill!
Hope you get it figured out! You'd think they would be thrilled about another subscription. Never heard of it before myself but then again it never occured to me to own chickens before this year too.I will tell her thanks for the advice![]()

Well I've had quite a day! My baby, my rotten angel has spent the long morning at the vet!! After tons of X-rays and even barium it's been discovered that she has invested something and its stuck in her intestine. So unless she poops its out tonight she's have surgery in the morning!![]()
On another note, I got this hen at the swap a while back. They said EE but I don't think so. Didnt care , she was just a nice looking girl. Any ideas? No cheek muffs or beard. Slightly greenish legs. Sorry it's not a better pic, she's real flighty!!![]()
M2H - One of these days I'm going to get some VetRX for my first aid kit. I have the NuStock and really like the results whenever I've used it (even on people). I'd like to compare the VetRX and see how it does. I wonder if it could just be mixed at home from those items. I know some folks make a home made NuStock, but I have never felt inclined to do that.
lol figures!Apparently if you want hens to go broody, just buy an incubator. Now one of my silkies is broody, sitting on eggs. As soon as I bought my incubator my hens started doing their jobs.
