INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Racin-- Congrats on your new layer

Jchny-- So sorry to hear about your cows. They look so sweet in your pictures! I really don't understand why someone would want to do that.

I hope the two surviving calves pull through!!!

Hello everyone, I'm still in Indy at my older daughter's. If I would have read the thread earlier I might have contacted lilmizscareall about getting some eggs. Tomorrow I'm going to Bloomington to pick up my other daughter for thanksgiving break. It's apparent on this thread that thanksgiving is near with all the talk about light meat and dark meat. I prefer the discussions about pasta and egg dishes. I miss my pet chickens. My husband sent this photo of them to me today.

Jchny - I just felt sick when I read about your cows! That is so sad and so unethical. I just wish there were good methods of protecting animals and to prosecute the scum of the earth people. How could a human look at those sweet animal babies and be so heartless! I am so sorry!

CCCHICKENS-- Here's the piano I just ordered for Nene. I thought the colored keys might be helpful since chickens see colors well. I'll keep you posted as I develop her curriculum. :p

it always seems to be our favorites we lose when the weather or an illness comes on,

Just to let everyone know. I got in touch with Old Salt via text message, and he said everything is ok.

Flock introduction help!
Our quarantine is over, but the new group is still sleeping in the garage. For the last couple days the new group has been free ranging while the old group stays in the run. Yesterday they've discovered each other on their own. Nothing exciting really. Also, right before the storm the new birds were trying to shelter under the coop overhangs.
ANYWAYS...
Group A-2 Roos and a hen, only a few months old.
Group B-Bantams, a Roo and 3 hens, about 5 months old.
B came from a group that had 2 Roos and a few other hens. There were no squabbles, but they were all raised together.

I'm hoping the Banty Roo is dominant enough, that he should stay at the top of the order. He is really good with his girls, not even doing a real crow yet!
So...after reading through the forums, I'm getting nervous about introduction and the pecking order. I was going to let them socialize through the run for the next week and switch them into the main coop Friday night.
Thoughts, suggestions, etc?

Other than that, would anyone be interested in a Roo? One is a Birchen Maran, the other is a Swedish Flower Hen, came from bradselig!
They will inevitably, be rehomed or culled...

Bantam roos are really aggressive usually and can hold their own well.
Integrating can be a challenge. You are doing what is needed. They need to see each other and be socialized.
Open intro's need to be monitored but grit your teeth and watch for anything bad..(drawing blood, injury) and be ready to stop it.
Late at night is best to add new birds to your flock so they all "wake up" to a regular routine.
I add new flock members almost weekly and always wait til the adults have roosted.

Morning all!!;)

Adding to the noodle talk, my grandmother taught me. Basically the same recipe ?? listed. But after rolling she would flour the top and roll the whole thing up. Then you can just cut thru the roll and there is your noodle. She didn't have anything fancy so a rolling pin and knife is all u need.

I helped my mother make noodles many times. That's how we did it. Roll the dough out flat. Roll the whole sheet of dough into a giant burrito. Slice it up with a knife. Then uncoil them into a pot of boiling water.

I got another giant egg from my #5 chicken. The last giant one one a double yolker so I'm sure this one will be too. She laid one normal jumbo sized egg between the two. She is still new to the laying so I'm hoping the giant double yolkers stop soon. Those can't be set after all.
No eggs from my two just started laying hatchery hens today. Maybe tomorrow. I keep checking and checking to make sure none of the birds are eating the eggs.
