If you need some beginning piano music for her let me know!

When little Nene really does play the piano, we'll need to videotape her!

We have a crippled Robin that has learned to whistle "Old MacDonald" and the tune I whistle to call the dogs in. Animals are absolutely amazing.

I got another giant egg from my #5 chicken. The last giant one one a double yolker so I'm sure this one will be too. She laid one normal jumbo sized egg between the two. She is still new to the laying so I'm hoping the giant double yolkers stop soon. Those can't be set after all.
No eggs from my two just started laying hatchery hens today. Maybe tomorrow. I keep checking and checking to make sure none of the birds are eating the eggs.
We have a BR pullet that keeps popping out double yolkers. What breed is #5 chicken? *((An honest query, not an OldSalt wise crack--because I can hear him saying the same thing, but meaning something different--although, it IS funny now that I think about it))*

You can set double yokers.
Jchny - I just felt sick when I read about your cows! That is so sad and so unethical. I just wish there were good methods of protecting animals and to prosecute the scum of the earth people. How could a human look at those sweet animal babies and be so heartless! I am so sorry!

CCCHICKENS-- Here's the piano I just ordered for Nene. I thought the colored keys might be helpful since chickens see colors well. I'll keep you posted as I develop her curriculum.

Awesome!

Heritage RIR. Chickens 1-3 are the roosters and 4-6 are the hens. I think #4 tried to lay an egg today. I saw her squatting and squatting but still waiting on eggs. Once I start getting regular eggs and more than 1 every so often I'll have to choose my breeding roosters and put the hens into breeding pens. I'm hoping to get those hens in the pens by Dec 1st to start collecting eggs by the 5th for the New yrs hatch along. If that does not happen then I'll be looking for hatching eggs to be in the hatch along or just sit it out.

Got my meyer's catalog today. Prices are increasing by well over 10% for many of the chicks I have bought in the past. Not all in the book are going up but the production assortment and many of the cheap chicks are increasing. I can't get more now but if I was debating between now or early next year, it would be now. Just in case any of you were thinking of ordering new year chicks, it might be cheaper to get Thanksgiving chicks.

Are you signed up for ideals emails? They always send me weekly emails of specials on over hatched breeds. They are very good prices but have to order a minimum of 25 chicks to get the special pricing. The last email I received it had pullet barred rocks, Rhode Island reds, ameraucana (EE), and black sex linked for $1.80 a chick.

no I need to do that. Meyer's production pack used to be really really close to $100 for 50 next year it is going to be $130. I liked the production pact from there because I could tell the chicks apart and the RIR chicks that I did not care for sold so well on CL. But a 30% increase in price, increases my chances of getting stuck with those RIR chicks.
