I need therapy too!!!! (Pouting in the corner)

I saw this, and thought it would be awesome! Since Santa Chicken only comes one night a year, maybe this red sweater would be safe for that long?
pginsber ~ Haha! That Santa looks like he’s worn out! (or trying hard to tolerate wearing that costume)

jchny ~ So great to see your post!

You’re lucky that E.coli didn’t land you in the hospital!
animal lover ~ That’s sad about your chickens. I’m sorry that you had to go through all of that. What are your plans when you graduate? -- besides having chickens!

brown cow ~ What a picturesque farm you have. Your chicken photos are hysterical! And I love your sweet cow #9852!

Excellent use of pallets.  Make more and scatter them around.  They will make good shelter from the sun this summer.

I saw a picture of your redheadded pullet.  She is a doll.  I am irritated that you didn't bring her with you when you came for the chickens.  Therefore, I recommend stew pot for the roo.  :somad

As an alternative, you could do what I did with my 5-year old grandson.  My rooster came after him and flogged him.  I told him to kick it.  Then took him out to the chicken yard and waited.  Sure enough, as soon as I backed away from Ben, the roo went for him.  I shouted "kick him".  He did a wimpy little slow kick.  Then I demonstrated, missing because the roo knows better than to get close to me.  Ben spent the next hour trying to sneak up on the roo and kick him.  He never got close, but the roo now gives him wide berth.  If you give Little Red an appropriate stick, I'll bet Peanut Butter will soon give her wide berth.:P

My Wyandottes have been laying for a month or 2.  Kinda small eggs.  Takes 5 to make a decent breakfast for me.  I'm getting about 18/day now.  If you bring Little Red by, she can see the Red Gold Pheasant and the 2 young peacocks and I'll give her some Easter Egger eggs.  Having 3 daughters and 6 granddaughters, I'm kinda partial to girls.  I guess you still qualify, so you can have a rooster.:D

John- good advice but she didn't handle the stick well. Chased after them all with it so I had to remove it from the garden. The power went to her head

. The stewpot is still an option!

I love the new avatar!!!!

You guys found Klopensteins huh? lol I see it driving on Illinois rd, but I havent been in there.

We did and they were so nice. After trying to contain my kids in 4 previous stores so Grandma could look, that store was such a relief. Their play options really helped my kids keep it together long enough for us to look.

Yes.  Get a pouch-in-the-front style baby carrier.  Put the chicken in it and stich it shut with only an opening for the bird to stick out it's head.  Carry her everywhere with you, only taking her out at roost time.  After 3 weeks, let her go.  She will be tame.  Or, possibly, attack and kill you.:gig

Lol!!!

My girls have finally started laying decently. A few of my neighbors were shocked. They say their chickens stop in the winter all together. I am so proud of my cold weather loving foul. :D

Me too! I only have 4 that lay but I get about 3 eggs per day and sometimes 4 now.

My Mom asked me what I wanted for my Birthday...I told her a "pair of Silkies", she told me she "not going into no shop that sells them sexy undies so (I'm) outta luck" ROFLMBO OH MOM!!!!!

So funny!

Janet-I'm so happy you and your calf are getting better.

My chickens were so excited to get out of the run and head to the garden...until they hit the snow. They turned right around and went into the run for the day. Poor chickens.

I played "chicken" all morning with my crew, pun intended. I was interested in whether they would go out in the snow or not. The only water was outside in a heated bowl. As of 12:45 not one print in the snow. I had to shovel before any of them would exit the coop, and there is only about 1" on the ground. What total wimps! All but three of them are under a year old so this may be the first time most of them have seen snow. I am hoping they get over this since winter arrived early and with a serious kick this year!
FarkerFarms ~ When I read your post, it reminded me of something from my chicken health book:

kabhper ~ Leahs Mom mentioned using a hair dryer after washing a chicken -- when I had to bathe my injured lavender orp, Violet, I always used a hair dryer on low. I learned that on a how to give your chicken a bath youtube video.

bradselig~ Your Tolburt Frizzle looks pretty incredible to me!
HouseKat ~ Cool looking First Egg! Congratulations! And your roo learned his first cock-a-doodle-doo(s). Haha Does he crow at all times of the day?

I had originally planned to paint my first egg gold, but it's so pretty as is that I'm going to leave it plain.

The rooster was making quite a racket around 1 pm today. He crowed repeatedly for about 15 minutes and then settled down. It was the first time that we had heard a full on crow from him.

So at sunset I went out to lock everyone in and noticed half my hens are missing most of the feathers on their backs. Guess they could not escape the rapists today because they were huddling in the coop. Saturday will be spent learning to make chicken saddles. Poor girls.

I'm with ya! I have material and a sewing machine, I have 10 girls and it's cold out, so ten it is. lol
