I haven't figured out which of my girls is throwing vaulted skulls, but about 1/3 of the chicks have had them.

Its hard to find a hatch that doesn't give you vaults. Remember, those vaults are just brain covered with skin and feathers. Those with vaults are more susceptible to head injuries.

Are they bantam, or LF? I will be interested in getting up with you this spring, I will need to add black back to my LF lavenders in a year to keep the colors correct, that gives me plenty of time for them to mature.

They are LF. There should be quite a few pictures of them linked to my profile. If you definitely want blacks I will be setting up a pen in Feb. With a first generation import rooster and my best black hens.

I feel ya. I started out with a small coop and have graduated to a barn full of silkie pens.

I always thought people wanted vaults, I guess not.

No, people do but it is erroneous to think the vault brings the bird more value. You can have just as nice a crest off a non-vaulted bird. People tend to think the vault will help make the crest bigger, when in fact a vault can distort a crest.

Just got home and everyone situated! I brought home my modern bantams! Is it fair to say ive had them home for less than one hour and already my favorite breed? Pictures will be posted later

Soon they will be having babies themselves. Here is my broody setting in her 20" wide x 24" deep nest. She is a big girl.

Do people really try to charge more for the vaulted skulls? I wouldn't think it would add value, but then again i don't know much about silkies( I dont have any).

Beautiful! Have you ever weighed any of them? They look like they have great size to them.
