INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thank you! I am always the nervous nelly when they start to sit. I'm not so worried about snow because she hatched 9 of the babies from this fall, Ashes on the other hand is adorable, but a bit touched in the head I think. I think she may be a vaulted that needs a helmet.

I will keep a close eye on her and if she gets flakey, I'll give snow the eggs. It was really funny tonight, none of the other girls are broody, but they were crawling all over Snow ansd Ashes in the boxes. I don't know what they were doing. Silkies are so patient. Booker , my roo, just goes about his day a if its all normal. He is so sweet to the 3 month olds too. He may not be perfect. but his personality makes up for it.

lol, I tried not to laugh when she was sitting, but not on any eggs. She sounds very comical. Good luck with you broodies

So, I about crapped myself when I saw the size of Exhabition quality LF white rocks! They were like turkey size! Ccccccccchickens- I maybe hitting you up for a couple sometime! I also got to see some roast comb bantams. Very beautiful birds as well! But of course, seeing the moderns was like love at first sight! I ended up getting a pair of Birchen, a pair of blacks, and a trio of blues. He threw in a black breasted red and brown red pullets. I can't believe how solid these birds feel despite their spindley look.

Love them!

I got a few pics when I went to do chores earlier. These are the new ones I got on friday. Well except for the Black rose combs, they are still extremely skitish.

It was hard to get any pictures of these guys they still aren't sure if they are going to like me or not lol. these were about the best I could get. My Hen from Doug has quite a bit of weight on them and is younger.

My 3 smallest chinese goslings I have to take aside and feed separate or they would be pushed out. they are older than the african and embden, but mature slower. And they know mom looks out for them too!
SO while the pekin are still playing in the kiddie pool, the geese get to eat. if its too cold for water (rarely), i toss the pekin corn then head to the coop with the geese.
Its funny how you work them around to where you know each groups strength and weaknesses.
Same for the chickens, I have less aggressive birds and bantams separate from the egg flock.
Even with the goats, Sophie is a much bolder outgoing doe than her mom, and will push her from the food!
Sugar gets "mom time" every day and a quick walk to the field for some yummy tall grass, and away from Sophie.
When I turn over the soil/leaves in the nature preserve, the two orps hang out right next to me because they know I'll make sure they get their share of worms. My EE used to do the same thing when she was at the bottom of the pecking order. Now she's the meanest to the orps. My chickens know to back off when I point my finger at them and give them "the look." They're just like kids.

Btw, Bonbon used to have the cutest tiny squeaky voice. Now she shrieks as loud as the LF hens!

What a nice surprise! One time my chickensdid that, proabably 3 or 4 of them. They had made a hidden nest with about 3 dozen eggs in it.

No, people do but it is erroneous to think the vault brings the bird more value. You can have just as nice a crest off a non-vaulted bird. People tend to think the vault will help make the crest bigger, when in fact a vault can distort a crest.
chisNchickens ~ I recently mentioned that I've never held a Silkie and I don't know much about them . . . When I was looking at my "Extraordinary Chickens" book last night, I saw a photo a "non-bearded" silkie-- you could see her pretty face. I hadn't realized that Silkies have that option-- all I had ever heard discussed were the vaulted skulls.

kabhyper ~ I love the name Henley for your pretty Silkie hen.
bradselig ~ Your modern game birds are very cool looking. They kind of look like super heroes. I can sense that the man-bird will be your next purchase.

I don't mean to be rude but those birds are weird looking to me. Tall and gangly. Lol like super models on too strict of a diet.

They [English Orpingtons] really do have decent size on them. I have never weighed any, but I have an 8 lb dog and she feels like a feather compared to my roos. I am guessing the broody hen is near eleven pounds. The roos definitely more. One of these days I will get some scales.
smile.png

Kiniska and CCCHICKENS~ My English Jubilee orp Adeline looks huge because of her feathers, but she is much lighter than my black Jersey Giant. Jersey is solid meat and has thicker legs. (I don't have scales, either!)
CCCHICKENS ~ The shape of your gorgeous White Rocks kind of reminded me of Jersey's -- and they both have turkey-like tail feathers.

What a nice surprise! One time my chickensdid that, proabably 3 or 4 of them. They had made a hidden nest with about 3 dozen eggs in it.
Wow-- Yours had a factory going! When Bonbon climbed in, she looked like she was climbing across rocks (eggs) to get to clear space to sit. Ha

minmin ~ You said you wanted one of brad's birds . . .
Btw, have you had any luck figuring out how to load your avatar on your phone? I know that many people have had trouble doing that on their phones. Maybe someone on here can advise you.
