INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Kiniska and CCCHICKENS~ My English Jubilee orp Adeline looks huge because of her feathers, but she is much lighter than my black Jersey Giant. Jersey is solid meat and has thicker legs. (I don't have scales, either!)
CCCHICKENS ~ The shape of your gorgeous White Rocks kind of reminded me of Jersey's -- and they both have turkey-like tail feathers.
They do Have turkey like feathers, and someof them turkey like size lol. When it gets nice, say spring or summer, I hope to get pictures of a lot of my chickens, including my other White rocks not pictured.

It wasn't last spring but the one before. They were a younger group of pullets. I wondered why I hadn't seen an eggs yet, then I found the nest. Then about a week later I was cleaning the coop, I found about 4 eggs buried in the saw dust.

minmin ~ You said you wanted one of brad's birds . . .
Btw, have you had any luck figuring out how to load your avatar on your phone? I know that many people have had trouble doing that on their phones. Maybe someone on here can advise you.
Lol I want Silkies...not those. They are odd looking. (My opinion- hahaha- like MY opinion counts for anything).
I've not had any luck loading it so here goes... If anyone has an I-4s and knows how to load the avatars please help me figure out how to do it. I've copied it to my pics...love it!!!

This is my least aggressive adult girl. Even though I have 2 feed bowls inside she is often standing on the roost watching and just runs away when the others are doing their shenanigans. I always take part of the feed and throw it around outside on the ground so everyone has a chance. But when it's very cold they often won't go outside. She, and the other "lowers", always get food, but the more aggressive pick out the "good stuff" and leave the legumes (which no self-respecting bird wants to eat if the have any other choice). So..when it's close quarters and she's on one of the roosts, I'll often put a little on the roost for her so she gets some of everything. I guess you could call this "breakfast in bed". :D (SFH - 1 yr old this week.)
Ohh she's pretty!
So far fertility on my LF ORP eggs has appeared to be better than 95%. Every egg we crack open has had a very clear bulls eye. If any Indiana BYC peeps would like hatching eggs please feel free to contact me. These are a mix of 100% and 75% English Orp out of a black and blue pen. So splash, black, and blue might all come out of the eggs. Pick up only. I can meet you in Corydon.
I wish you were closer lol! Well maybe not! It's probably a good thing otherwise I would be adding yet another breed!
I wasn't aware that one could have too many silkies...? ;-)
I agree!
I was talking about the ones that had their own shed. I only saw a rooster in the modern game barn. I didnt see a hen. I didn't see a hen there close to matching mines size. My rooster is defanitley the same size as the one in the modern bantam barn, maybe a tad larger. I was surprised he didnt have any birds from Doug. I wished i would of looked harder at the pen I want to see the hen now. She was probably hiding behind the rooster.
Yea there was a huge hen in with the roo in the modern barn.
Love them!
Thanks! They are very docile. You can literally scoop them up under their chest and they just lay in your hand.
I got a few pics when I went to do chores earlier. These are the new ones I got on friday. Well except for the Black rose combs, they are still extremely skitish. It was hard to get any pictures of these guys they still aren't sure if they are going to like me or not lol. these were about the best I could get. My Hen from Doug has quite a bit of weight on them and is younger. The cockerel he gave me
Very nice! Can't wait to see you rose combs. Their white earlobes make them look so flashy!

chisNchickens ~ I recently mentioned that I've never held a Silkie and I don't know much about them . . . When I was looking at my "Extraordinary Chickens" book last night, I saw a photo a "non-bearded" silkie-- you could see her pretty face. I hadn't realized that Silkies have that option-- all I had ever heard discussed were the vaulted skulls. kabhyper ~ I love the name Henley for your pretty Silkie hen. [rule]bradselig ~ Your modern game birds are very cool looking. They kind of look like super heroes. I can sense that the man-bird will be your next purchase. ;)
Thanks! The only issue with getting that rooster is they tend to be aggressive. I'd rather not have a mean chicken here lol.
I don't mean to be rude but those birds are weird looking to me. Tall and gangly. Lol like super models on too strict of a diet.
What?!? I can't believe you'd say a thing like that! Lol ;). They are very different looking, which is why i was originally attracted to them.
Lol They remind me of "...so a pigeon and a chicken walked out of a bar......" They are neat little wierd birds.
Thanks!

I also still need to add you to the members page. I haven't forgot, just been busy!

No worries. If you ever have a chance to interact with one, I highly recommend it! Very sweet birds. I always thought silkies were different than other chicken breeds, IMO these guys are much calmer and almost seem to enjoy the human interaction.

Darn, I can't believe I missed it!

Thanks. they definatley are on the smaller side, but have good type. The rose combs are a younger pair, he said they have a lot of filling out to do before they are full grown. He said they should be a nice pair. It is going to take a lot of time and effort to get them to cooperate though! They aren't wild, but it does take a little effort to catch them. You can walk past them without them freaking out, it is just when you try to handle them. I will work on it!

Pictures! My babies have grown so fast!

Soon they will be having babies themselves. Here is my broody setting in her 20" wide x 24" deep nest. She is a big girl.
LOVELY!!!!

Yes I sure will! Will PM you so I don't forget later this spring!

So, I about crapped myself when I saw the size of Exhabition quality LF white rocks! They were like turkey size! Ccccccccchickens- I maybe hitting you up for a couple sometime! I also got to see some roast comb bantams. Very beautiful birds as well! But of course, seeing the moderns was like love at first sight! I ended up getting a pair of Birchen, a pair of blacks, and a trio of blues. He threw in a black breasted red and brown red pullets. I can't believe how solid these birds feel despite their spindley look.

WOW is all I can say.. The birchen are just striking!! I always love blues but I love the lil pullet at the end too, she looks very sweet.
Lovely birds, I would have snatched them up too.
I really like the heritage rocks period, good heavy birds, the partridge I had were so big they couldn't make it higher than a 2 ft roost!
I want to add more next year, but am aiming for Barred first. Just love my Mabel, she has been a great hen since we got her.
She is probably just an average production bird, but has a sweet disposition.

Surprise!
This morning when I let the chickens out at 7:00, my bantam orp, Bonbon, made a beeline for the old rabbit coop sitting under a bush. I looked in to find that she and my EE, Roadrunner, have been laying there! I've had the nest in there because at different times in the past the other hens have decided to lay there, but no one has laid there for months, so it didn't occur to me to look. I brought the eggs in and we had scrambled eggs for breakfast.
