INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Happy new year everyone!

Mine started off just right! Got my first modern egg this morning! It is from the blue pen which also has my brown red hen in there to try and get lemon blues!

Happy New Year! I have just found this thread after being on BYC for a while. I have chickens, turkeys and ducks. My self blue jenny is actually laying fertile eggs right now so if you are interested PM me. I am excited about this year. We are getting Sweetgrass and Tiger Bronze turkeys from Porters this year. I already have a pair of Self Blues. We are building a new barn this year to house our ever growing flock!:D

My apologies for responding to CCCHICKENS instead of you! No wonder I couldn't get the post to quote-- she had quoted your post. I was intermittently looking at the site while watching TV. Multi-tasking is not a good idea.

Anyway, Olive is absolutely beautiful-- especially her precious face!

I remember you saying that you think of Silkies as birds more than chickens, and I can see why. Someday I will hold one and check them out-- not yours-- I'd have to wear gloves! lol Their feathers (if that's what you call them since they don't look like typical feathers) look amazing-- and of course, silky!

The names are somewhat similar so I understand the confusion....my name is for chihuahuas and chickens. Chis is short for chihuahuas. I have raised and shown chis for going on eleven years. Perhaps I should use this pic for my avatar....lol

Welcome! I need a tom for my lone hen...where is Redkey?

Hello to you all!!!
My name is Bruce. I'm brand new to all of this. I'm going to try my hand at Jersey Giants for eggs and meat. I live in Auburn just north of Fort Wayne. I'm looking for any help and advice on the care of the breed. So anyone near me with experience I'd love to possibly look at your setup and pick your brain. Oh and any good tips on who any good breeders near here might be?

Hi Bruce and welcome to the fastest moving thread on BYC lol. I don't have JGs but maybe someone else here can help.

Quote: my Dh saw her in the front yard. My coop is clearly visible from the road this time of the year with the neighbor's open fields on all sides. The gates were closed when I got home but I'm thinking she went to the back left the gate open the roo got out. She then leaves the back yard and closes the gate. Now I can't imagine not seeing the big roo but maybe he slipped by her. I keep hoping he will show up, but we have moved and re-baited traps. And I keep checking for hawks but so far I have not seen any.

my old production red hens would chase visitors too. It was great fun to watch.
