INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Quote: My Fluff, a white silkie still isnt. I bet she won't till spring, she is an early june baby.
Polish are not laying either. They are close to a year old!

True, as long as the snow does not increase the morning chore time there is no delay. I do remember a few times when the snow came while I was in highschool. My mother chose to cancel school for the day and make shoveling our uphill gravel 1/10 of a mile long drive the activity for everyone all day (with lots of hot chocolate breaks). Note the driveway was always up hill when it needed work. But the same hill 5 ft over was great for sledding DOWN.
ROFL you sure pegged that right!

Hmm I guess I need to look harder in my pens. I found 3 bantam Cochin eggs today in the one, but only have 2 pullets lol. Only one I'd think is old enough to be laying though.
I have some new layers randomly dropping outside. Hope they catch on fast, its a real pain.

I'm having a little to much fun with Photoshop

Wow I think the cochins are goodat burying eggs! Just found another freshly laid egg from my lavender pullet! 4 cochin eggs in one day lol. I wish they did lay that well

LOL now you know to watch them, sneaky girls!

Hey goatluver20 can you put some clothes on my baby girl Olivia?

Lol ... I need to get somebody to knit her a sweater..
Her bf is Ozzy and he keeps her warm.
But she doesn't like to be in the cage.
She would rather sit on top of it.

Shes a frizzle without feathers. She is so funny, she sticks her head thru the cage door.
All you see is a bald head and her mohawk.Or you open the cage and see four eyes
looking at you from one body. Untill she comes out from under Ozzys wing.

Awww hope she sprouts a few more feathers!
So how cold can an egg get before incubation and still have a chance of being hatchable? Have a guy wanting me to ship him eggs and I keep telling him to wait until it warms up. All my other people are waiting.
If the eggs are not solid frozen, wait a day and candle. If you don't see cracks they will likely hatch.
I have had a frozen, uncracked egg hatch, but you have to let them warm up gradually.
i pencil date every egg i plan to hatch, and it saves me a lot of headaches.

My brother Jack was able to shower, eat a burger (said it was nasty!) and walk a lot further today. He is just doing great!
He may actually go home as early as wednesday. Just amazing how much this surgery has changed since the 80s.
I am really relieved and happy for him. He turns 60 at the end of april. I hope he can opt an early retirement, but I know he won't.
He just loves life, and having fun, meeting people. It would not do well for him if he just sat at home, alone.
He is alone, divorced after 37 years, so we are making sure schedules are planned so he is not alone at home the first few weeks.
He will be on brookville lake fishing by spring! LOL the stinker is already fussing about his boat.
I am so pleased with my new scovies. I cannot say thank you enough to LAM and BYB!
my lavender Drake is already a very "busy" boy and I see lots of ducklings this spring

I am seriously considering selling my pekin flock. If anyone wants a trio or quad, please PM me.
I plan to keep a quad for eggs and chicks, The eggs are just fantastic for cakes.

I am playing hooky today from work as i have a headache and my sinuses are killing me.
M2H-- We had plans of putting an awning up in the tarps place before we got more chickens... now we have to add on to the coop in its place, and will put the awning out on the west side of the coop ... wanted it on the south but not enough room. didn't plan this out very well in the beginning.... but will make do with what we have. BUT now that DH is out of work... we will have to wait and see what happens, we are already talking about selling the horses.
Belive it or not that tarp has been through allot of high winds, lots of heavy snow and just bad weather all around ... it don't look good but it has been great having it up.
chick rookie ~ That's a good point about the wind-- even awnings rip from strong winds. I'm glad that you've been able to line up some feed, so hopefully you won't have to rehome your horses. I admire that you discussed the possibility, though, because some people wait until it's too late. Hopefully, your DH will get work comp soon-- I can't remember what kind of injury he had, but I hope he is feeling better.

I really love each of these. You are trying to make more silkie fans aren't you?
CRSelvey ~ Because of bradselig's and kaphyper's constant posts of adorable silkies, I fell for them. I just love the three silkies from brad. They look like little chicks in jammies with feet on them. Meanwhile Kiniska's Eng Orps are feathering beautifully although we're a little concerned about the giant blue/black one because if "she" isn't a roo, she's a turkey, or California Condor! haha He/she is very funny because she likes to act like she's in charge since she's the largest, but she's actually kind of a fraidy cat! haha I need to take some new pics tomorrow of all of them.

I'm having a little to much fun with Photoshop

goatluver ~ Your bright colored, funny pics are great diversion from the snow and ice!

we are going to put a metal roof on ours, and install tracks that clear fiberglass roofing sheets can be slid into in the winter for 3 sides and a 3/4 piece in the front with a heavy rubber strips in the walk way, like you see in the big industrial walk in freezers. already have the metal given to me just got to go pick it up.
he tore the M------------ ligament that runs down the back of his knee and has a bone chip (from his knee cap ) stock in between his cap and cartilage.
He goes in for surgery the 12 for repairs. they say he will be on crutches with a leg brace for 3 weeks then physical therapy for 3 weeks... going to be a long road...

Great pictures and information as always guys! Thanks for all the advice. I won't take money until right before I ship. Also I won't guarantee eggs that are shipped. No way to know what happens to them on the way. Have a great day! Love you all to pieces.
Oh, I will be putting the first set of eggs in my bator this Friday! Here is to a good hatch!

Another -13 degree day! I am starting to get over this weather now. My kids did not have a two hour delay, most of the surrounding schools did though. looks like a little relief may becoming by the end of the week (hopefully). Now its time for a large cup of coffee, Hope everyone is having a wonderful morning so far! And stay warm...

I'm so over this weather! I just started to get my first cold, of the season, last night. Just last Friday, my car decided it would no longer start and I'm stuck in the house. Which is good for a cold, but not good if I can't get myself any supplies. That and my DD gets fairly annoyed by cabin fever.
I honestly love snow and don't mind being stuck indoors, but this is my first winter with chickens and it's been really rough. These temps are like a kick while you're down.
