INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I have heard good things about the K12 program. The best is that the cost is paid for by the school system. Doing school at home is great. It takes a bit of motivation to stay on schedule but overall here are some of the fun perks:
no hall pass needed for bathroom breaks, snacking during class is allowed, holding a kitten while watching the lecture ~ no problem, absolutely no bullies, no brown bag lunches, no locker room privacy issues, no need to find a seat on the bus, and if work or chores needs to be done school can be completed ahead of time with no tardy or absences.
Also depending on the program you end up using, the school year just needs 180 school days, so you get to pick the holidays.
You forgot no school delays to worry about or snow days to make up in the summer!

M2H-- We had plans of putting an awning up in the tarps place before we got more chickens... now we have to add on to the coop in its place, and will put the awning out on the west side of the coop ... wanted it on the south but not enough room. didn't plan this out very well in the beginning.... but will make do with what we have. BUT now that DH is out of work... we will have to wait and see what happens, we are already talking about selling the horses.
Belive it or not that tarp has been through allot of high winds, lots of heavy snow and just bad weather all around ... it don't look good but it has been great having it up.

I hope you guys find a solution that allows you too keep most of your animals without making it too difficult in the meantime. At least you have eggs to eat everyday until its sorted out.

Good Luck with the program. I hope it goes well for you.

Thanks! It looks like spring is just around the corner! I got my first bantam Cochin egg and two tolbunt from my frizzled hen but both of those were frozen by the time I found them

Also got 4 Marans eggs today from 7 hens! Now if LF Cochins and legbars could start laying!

Oh No! Frozen eggs are such a bummer. I was thinking about fully insulating around the nesting box, but I'm not sure it would help. What do you think?
I took some pictures of my hold backs the other day. Just getting around to posting them.
Little blue partridge. Leaning towards pullet, but not sure.

I really love each of these. You are trying to make more silkie fans aren't you?

True, as long as the snow does not increase the morning chore time there is no delay. I do remember a few times when the snow came while I was in highschool. My mother chose to cancel school for the day and make shoveling our uphill gravel 1/10 of a mile long drive the activity for everyone all day (with lots of hot chocolate breaks). Note the driveway was always up hill when it needed work. But the same hill 5 ft over was great for sledding DOWN.

Hmm I guess I need to look harder in my pens. I found 3 bantam Cochin eggs today in the one, but only have 2 pullets lol. Only one I'd think is old enough to be laying though.

Mine started somewhere in the 7-8 month range

My oldest started laying last fall, but hasn't since winter. Can't wait till spring!

I know!! I still have bcm, buckeye, and a couple others on my wish list too but I think a silkie would be gentle enough to play well with my Spitzhauben girl. She really needs a friend.
