INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

anyone have any ideas on what a GLW Roo bred with a Blue Splash Cochin would look like. Ive looked on here but not really seeing anyone who has came across this pairing yet. Im anxious to see what they will be.

My new brooder is doing great, the chicks live all the space. My only concern is the height of the walls. But so far they are not coming close to jumping out, yet!
400

It's so funny to watch them get a running start and act like they are flying lol!!
The bottom is lined with some extra pieces of cardboard. I hope it last for a little bit.

You will want to get a screen to cover it soon. I had a similar setup, and everything went great. Then one day I came home to chicks all over the basement pooping on everything. As soon as one figures out how to jump to the edge and out, the rest will follow!

Yes I have some green, green with a pine print...and you would be surprised what I can do with flowers! Lol. If you don't see anything that you like there just tell me what you want can get it. Not a problem. Is kind of obvious that I am always looking for "projects" to keep me busy. Helps keep my mind off my legs. Have a workers comp injury I've been dealing with since 10/11/12. I'm having issues with depression and pains now... So I apologize for the pity party type comments. Lol
Pain brings on depression in many people. But for some reason relieving that pain does not always make the depression go away. Sometimes the pain meds can mess with the brain chemicals / hormones and make the depression worse. If WC will cover it, I would get it checked out. If not, the natural remedies for depression tend to start with upping vitamin D and Puritan's Pride seems to have the best prices on their Vitamin D pills or infant drops. I get the drops for my children when they are of the nursing age. The research is currently suggesting that a nursing child might benefit from Vit D drops and the natural ones end up being cheaper than the others for a year's supply. The natural ones I get are also only 1 drop a day so easy to use right away with a squirmy infant.
As for me getting aprons, I might later, but for now I need to convince DH first.

Martinsville RK has BR RIR EE SLW ..I think that's it. They had a ton of them Sunday. I think there were more breeds than that too. My aunt works there she usually sends me a pic of the list of breeds. I'll ask her tomorrow to send it my way and any new ones. They usually will get more in and of different types later too.

I'm doing good to stay away. hatching more Marans setting Sunday! Throwing in a few OE, AM's and AM crosses. Gotta figure out a good way of separating my breeds in the Bator.

Any good suggestions. .what works best? I really wish I could have a separate hatcher honestly! !
I am considering the broilers but I have some time before I'll have the space but then maybe I'll skip the broilers till fall.
I got plastic baskets from the dollar store the ones with square holes on all sides and the bottom. Then I trimmed it to be the right height using kitchen scissors.
We did have a lot of fun! It was just fantastic to put faces to names. Sure miss oldsalt and vicki being on the thread

The owner at our campground has raised chickens. and his grandson is even selling eggs there now!
I hope our next get together can be down there. There are 2 campgrounds nearby that folks can stay and enjoy a weekend there too!
DH said he will be willing to help on a work co-op too. Sounds like there is a lot of us interested in it.
A camp ground sounds fun. There would be lots for little ones to do too.

Quote: I agree, get a screen or some of the plant netting that Leah's Mom has linked here for cheap available netting.

As for the netting I linked from ebay, it is not to keep starlings out. For that you would need much smaller netting holes. We got it mainly because of hawks. It is a plus that the owls have not attempted to get by it. But the wild birds don't go in our run when the cat is in the yard (not run) or if the run contains a duck or rooster. Even my leghorn hens will chase off the starlings.

Ok you just gave me something else to make "the old man" freak about!!! Lol that door is going to be purchased within the next 2months!!! Love it!!

Hey! With an automatic door you are less chained to the house and can go out to dinner or out to a movie without worrying about being home to lock the chickens in!  Win/win for the hubs!

ROFLMBO.... He hasn't taken me out to dinner for 5 yrs and the last movie i went out to see was with my daycare kids...finding Nemo. He has NEVER taken me to a movie. Doesn't buy gifts or flowers either. Christmas, Valentines, Birthdays...all "just another day" according to him. I envy those of you with loving helpful understanding mates. I'm just independent and stubborn enough that I just don't care anymore. It's a co-existence that's all. My kids, siblings, doggie and my chickens love me... That's good enough for now.

:hugs Sometimes people get "comfortable" and forget to show their Significant Other how much they care. Felt like you needed a hug.

Thank you for the support. I am glad I can go into a "phase" on here and get support rather than critcism. I also think the internet can be a great thing, I like getting to know all of you and can't wait for my trip there next week. At least I'll meet two of my "New Besties".

One of our BAs disappeared yesterday afternoon and was still missing when I came to work this afternoon.  Also, while searching for her this afternoon I caught one of our EEs trying to eat an egg that she had just laid!  I saw her laying it, came back moments later to find it broken and her pecking at it.  I immediately grabbed a plastic bag and scooped it all up.  I'm hoping that it was the first time, but it would explain why we have gotten so few EE eggs.  Saw a dead raccoon on the side of the road as I drove away, I wonder if it had anything to do with our missing BA.

Has your BA ever gone broody before? Maybe she found a clutch of eggs out there somewhere and is trying to sit on them.

You'll also have to come visit when we get together! You are not that far away! It is tough feeling alone and it is nice to have the online network. I am single so I do everything myself most of the time. It get's really hard at times and it is nice to have others here that share some of the same interests and are going through the same struggles.
