INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Will probably be setting eggs tomorrow in the incubator, but since we've never hatched eggs before, had a couple questions for those with more experience:
i have got a couple of accurite digital therm/hygrometers in the unit + 2 of the little bulb thermometers + the combo gauge on the lid. Question is should i trust one or the other type to be more accurate or reliable since they dont all read exactly the same (+/- 2 deg & aprox 10+ humidity variance), or would it be better to use an average between the high & low readings?
I do the average. Humidity is really important too, if at all possible 70% is ideal.

Quote: If you find someone that can sex them, I think so. Will try to get pics next day or so, he is a cute lil bugger ( or she dunno yet). Things are terrible busy here, barely keeping up with the thread

I have several silkies from Brads eggs too that hatched, need to post all the new babies, including the 28 pullet chicks from RK, and my new additions from sally and racin

Mom started PT for her knee and I am running around a lot more. Ugh i hate driving, but Dad cant be out in these temps, its dangerous for heart patients.
So I am not letting him go ANYWHERE

SLW has a little feathering too.
feather legged
I am not sure. I can tell you they aren't EEs, I would venture to say they are mixed breeds. Maybe somewhere down the line they have EE in their ancestry, but by its looks nowhere recently (meaning mom or dad)

Were they 100% incubated in the sportsman? I am seeing MUCH better development with mine already, No more worrying and messing with temps and humidity.
They were incubated in the sportsman and hatched in a little giant. Batch 2 (of which the first hatched a few minutes ago) is 100% sportsman.

Can I also ask where you got them and how closely are they related?
Merlin was from a lady in Northern Indiana who got hers from CrazyPetLady. The girls are from a lady in NE Illinois who got hers direct from GFF. Everything originally came from GFF, but no sibling/parent/flock relationships between roo and hens.

So in the busy evening we have had, I didn't check the silkies as early as I usually do. Well when I did Snow had bailed on her kids for the other box with the rest of the flock in it. She's done. So since it was kinda chilly in there, I put the babies in there too to sleep with the flock. I will probably put them back into their brooder during the day since they are still small. They are almost 6 weeks though, and she is laying eggs everyday, so they should be okay on their own. I snuck in and snapped a picture to see where everyone was sleeping. They seem to be okay.

I loved this, still giggling!

This my son and one of our rescued chickens. This bird LOVES to be held. She follows us around like a dog. She has really deformed feet from the cruel way she was kept, but it doesn't stop her from hanging on to hoods, packpacks, hair... whatever
Lovely chicken, and handsome young man too!

Sure AL, whats it about?

Quote: @CluckAcres is selling his ducks last I heard.
I have ducklings from a hatchery that are females for sale. However I am not close to you by any means. Personally I recommend getting in touch with Cluck.
Since you only want two, ordering from a hatchery might be hard unless you find people to go in with you on the order. Last year the ones I saw at the feed store were straight run. Ducklings eat and eat so even buying 4 ducklings in hopes of a 50 / 50 split from the feed store might not save you over paying for a full grown duck.
Very true, they eat A LOT. Scovies aren't anywhere near the food hogs other breeds are tho. They can be as messy with the water tho, with the had diving lol!

ok something went stupid with my computer... missing stuff that I put in the post but didnt show up so got to do it all over again
(just the stuff thats missing )
2 nd feather legged chick
same chick

I didn't have my glasses on yesterday, so I had the wrong chicks with feathered legs sorry, these are the only 2.
I have raised chicks before and got to say these chicks I think are going to be trouble. the SLW's are very aggressive, and the "EE's " STRESS to the max at the littlest things. I just walk up to the cage and look in at them and it's on!!!! God forbid I should ... fill a feeder, or water, or OMG I scoop poop!!!!!! done of which is easy to do with 3 little SLW's jumping on my hands and pecking me like I'm the best meal they will ever get!!!! When I'm looking at them "from the outside" of the cage 1 of them will actually jump at my face and hit the bars.!!!! Going to try and get DH to video it tomorrow. You wont believe it!!!
At first I thought it was cute but it happens all the time. Is this something wrong or is it play or what????

And I couldn't finish without my Pretty Woman. She is just so sweet !!!

Hope she lives a very very long and happy life here with me.
