INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Don't know if anybody ever checks out the Rare Breed Auction or not. But Greenfire Farms has 15+ rare breed chicks up for auction, bid right now is $25.01. There is another listing for 10 assorted 100% English Orpingtons chicks up for auction, the current bid on them is $30.00

Your from the big CC also? Small world!

I watch it regularly. Just incase anyone is interested in bidding, you do have a one time $3 verification fee you have to pay before bidding. So if you are going to wait last minute to bid, might want to get the registration started prior!

The other day I believe it was a dozen rhodebar chicks when for $25 with $35 shipping! Seems Rhodebars have drastically lost their value this year.

Hey all,
Not sure if anyone remembers us but we are still around! Does anyone know of or have quality Barred Rocks, RIR's or Cochins? We're looking for female/pullets only. Feel free to message me privately or email me at [email protected].
Thanks for looking!

Thanks for posting! Do you know what they charge to ship?

Oh..and can you post a link? I lost some of my "favorites" so I haven't looked in forever!

HOLY MOLY! I called Rural King today and they have 30 different breeds this morning and 1100 chicks total. My head is spinning at the possibilities. I got the correct disinfectant for my brooder, the food mill will have new chick feed tomorrow and they have babies...I think I might be in business.
After reading this I called the Rural King in Niles, MI (just across the state line by South Bend). We're about the same distance from that RK & the one in Kendalville. The guy there rattled off about a dozen breeds they had. I was expecting more so I asked if they were getting more breeds with the next batch. He said they'll be getting more things like ducks, guineas, etc, but if I wanted different chicken breeds I could special order. He said they get all their chicks from Townline Poultry and the other RK stores do too. Townline only has about 15 breeds of chickens, so I wonder if the RK by you has a different supplier. Townline is also the supplier for the chicks I can order through my feedmill. They only cost $1.80/pullet when I order that way and they get the chicks once/month. (I don't know this year's price for cocks & SR but last year they were .70/cock & $1.20/SR. Usually the price only goes up about .10 each year.) The first order this spring has to be in by April 1st and they can be picked up April 15. The breeds Townline has available are jumbo cornish rock, easter eggers, assorted bantams, barred rocks, black australorps, black sex link, buff orpingtons, isa browns, golden & silver laced wyandotte, california grey leghorn, new hampshire red & rhode island red. Plus rouen, pekin, indian runner & khaki ducks ($2.75 SR last year), bronze & white turkeys, gray toulouse & white emben geese & pearl guineas. These were all the breeds the RK guy told me they would have also. If anyone wants more info/phone number for ordering let me know. It's Foraker Feed Mill in Foraker (just a couple miles outside Goshen).

Thank you for the information about the verification fee. I think that I just need to stay away from that site until after the Orpingtons are gone just in case they would go for that low price, I don't think I could resist bidding on them and I definitely don't need any more chicks coming this year.

Sorry for reposting, but, I asked one time before and don't think I got any replies. (If anyone did reply and I missed it then I'm sorry) Does anyone know what this hens coloring would be called. She is a bantam cochin from TSC last year. I looked up "silver-penciled" and that doesn't quite look the same. Neither does "silver-laced"
Any ideas?
wheezy~ I don't know, but I remember your post because she is stunning! Her pattern immediately reminded me of NYC's Art Deco Chrysler Building.
amwchicken~ I just love their love story! Did you find out who Rex belongs to? I love that multi-colored roo pattern. What kind is he?

Maybe some of you might be quicker with the helpful info:

This is my post.
lilmizscareall ~ I am still catching up on posts and overlooked this one at first (If it's an emergency, please use a little bit larger type size in red). Did you find anything out?

What is the breed of the chicken that cutie Pearl is holding? Is that feather type called double lacing?

I got the call at 6 this morning that my chicks had arrived at the post office (it took 20 hours for them to drive the 5 hours from Missouri to Indiana, no wonder the USPS is going bankrupt). I left right away to go get them and heard the beautiful sound of chirping from the box! They all survived but you should have seen them attack the food and water! I got two extra male Bielefelders (for a total of 5 Bielies) and two extra Isbars (for a total of 5 straight run but increases my odds for a good female showing!). They are just beautiful and not at ALL skittish. I don't know if that is the breed personality already showing through or if they were handled a lot, but they aren't afraid of me reaching in from above and when I pulled a couple out and plopped them down for pictures they just sat and accepted some loving with no fear! The Bielies are HUGE too! About 3 times the size of the Isbars. I'm not sure what the hatch dates were, so they may be a bit older.

Male Bielefelder - they are lighter colored with cream and bronze barring

Female Bielefelder, darker with chestnut and bronze barring

Blue Isbar - they are so tiny next to the Bielies! I'm not sure if they are younger or of there is that big of a size difference!

ChickCrazed ~ I am so happy for you and your chicks! I can't believe that they made it and that they're so laid back! Both breeds are adorable.
PipD and CCHICKENS ~ Loved your chicken photos (and the cute guinea pig!)
