That is so sad! I have followed her story and I can't believe this happened. I hope you find someone to help you. I still haven't gotten to the end of my pages, but when I get there, I hope you've have good news.Well, I have some sad news:
Einstein, my lone EE hen, was killed today by either a stray cat or my brother's dog. She just turned a year old this week and started laying again a couple weeks ago.
After all that girl has been through...raccoons, flock illness, below freezing temps, etc. I just can't believe this.![]()
This was her just a few days ago, when she was helping me clean my Jeep.
My DF called me as I was finishing up work and I cried all the way home.![]()
I was going to start trying to incubate her eggs too.![]()

Is anyone from Ellitsville/Bloomington and below (Southern Indiana) incubating at the moment? If Einstein laid an egg today before moving on to chicken heaven, it is most likely fertilized by her now lonely BCM boyfriend. I haven't tested out my incubator yet and if there's a chance to hatch, I would really love to try! I am going to be in the Bloomington area tomorrow, but I will drive anywhere within 2 hours of Dubois County. Thanks!

I really hope it works out.Thank you everyone for the kind words about Einstein's loss. After crying a bit and a stiff drink, I came to terms with her being gone and I told myself, I have more chicks and I can try and hatch her last egg, so I will live.
Non-chicken people just do not understand! Considering she was the lone chicken for so long, I really got attached to her. When I went up to the farm today and didn't see her pop out from under a bush and run up to me as I opened the car door, it was really sad. And then I saw Rex, the boyfriend (neighborhood Roo) walking around looking for her, I wanted to cry again. I told him, sorry big guy, your girl is gone.
M2H - I decided to try and hatch the egg myself. My dad had worked on the temp in our incubator all morning before I got up there. He said it's worth a shot. So thanks to everyone who offered! I just hope it didn't get too cold last night for it.
We'll see what happens!![]()
Hope everyone has a great week!
That Spotted white hen is the twin to one of mine (the one in my avatar) she is a California White. Lays bluefish White eggs (more on White side though). The roosters of that breed are almost all quite aggressive. Someone on CA thread said they are raised for fighting because of their attitude.
I saw kiddie pools at Family Dollar this week.Jchny, The kiddie pools are the ones we used last year for the alpacas. I don't think anyone is carrying them yet for this summer. Chick Rookie, it is garden netting from TSC. I think it is 14' x14' it is around $5 or so.
Or possibly the hardware store?Janet- check lowes on kiddy pools. I thought I saw the outside garden associates bringing them down the other day
Well I had two of my newly moved out babes hatched in November come up missing last night at lockup and realized this morning that the feather mess I found was from my lone Silkie boy! Omg I could cry! I hate losing babes but out here with hawks and such it never surprises me...but to lose him..ugh...he has made it through a lot and was such a good boy! Of course one of the babes I lost was a blue copper Marans pullet.
Pic in memory of him!
