INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Morning pond update: 2 pair of redhead diving ducks & 1 pair of mallards swimming around. Wonder how long the redheads will be in the area? The grebe we had 2 years ago stayed at least a week. I read they (redheads) go to the northern plains/parts of southwestern Canada to breed.
Thats so cool! I need to clear more around my pond to get a better view!

Got a problem hoping the goat people here can help me with, my doe is past due, today is day 150, and she has scours, can I give her drench? Or something else, I wormed Monday cause 1 doe had them and the vet had me do everyone. And we have them on a new feed that is supposed to be better for pregnant and nursing does. I know the change could have caused it but only the 1 doe is having the problem, and it just had to be the overdue one.
She is not acting real peppy either, she just stands with her but against the wall. Then she poo's on the wall and I have to move her and clean her up and she goes right back to the wall. She looks real bad in the hip area if she wasn't having this problem I would say she is going into labor, but with this maybe not. I'm a newbie as far as birthing, so I'm asking allot of questions, sorry, I may just be jumping the gun and being peariond .
Wow, not sure. Scours can come from stress, a dozen other things. here is a few things I pulled up just googling it:

Good luck, I know how you are feeling right now

It was a lot of fun to train them. Most dogs are chosen for a play drive, and it goes from there.
May be getting our new puppy Saturday

Oh my, so exciting!!! Congrats!

Quote: I have 4 Lavender orp roos that are all sweet, and never a problem at all. They are all over a year old. How many roosters do you keep? I have learned if there are a few, they seem to leave the humans alone and go after each other

My first rooster, GLW Red, would attack us. Since we have added and changed the flock so much, He focuses on the other boys now, and is my shadow during the day a lot too. My extra roosters all live with my egg coop flock, and when I set breeding pens I always try to have 2 roos in there. This has stopped the "aggressive' rooster issues for us.

Lovely birds! awesome looking eggs too.
Quote: I plan to start collecting any I can lay my hands on. DH is working on finding me a truck, like a regular cab chevy or dodge.
Told him I am really needing something larger than my tiny chevy tracker! Plan to put a cap on it, then I can do what i gots to do

I hope you all don't mind my pond posts, but I am just absolutely stunned at the visitors we've been getting the last couple of days. A pair of wood ducks has just joined the party! With the exception of the mallards & geese, I had never seen any of these ducks before. I'm spending way too much time trying to ID them online! So at this moment we have 2 pair redheads, 1 pair wood ducks, 1 pair mallards & 2 canadian geese (for awhile there was a geese love triangle going on -- got a bit loud briefly!) I can keep such close tabs because the pond is fairly close to the house & I just look out the living room windows. If anyone wants to stop by for a look let me know!

Here are a few chick pics I know I've been busy with goats.
Easter one of our EE's

One of the Black Australorps pullet?? Anyone guess?

The next 4 are of a GLW strait run can someone sex this chick?

Sorry about the bad pics!! But if someone could sex the Australorp and GLW that would be awesome!
How old, I bet I can help you, I raise both breeds.

Ok all you hatching experts

are you tired of me yet?

I have 7 chicks out and mostly dry. I have 1 egg that's piped but I don't think made it because it hasn't done anything for several hours and it's wet around the pip. I have several others that I think are piped but keep getting rolled around by the other chicks, what do I do? Leave them be or get the chicks out?

Wait... they are ok for now. Its really hard I know. Try to not open the incubator at all, seriously!

Thank you all for the advice about "Wry Neck". The chick was actually worse this morning but seems slightly better now. She is not eating well and I hav t dip her beak t get her t drink. She's tolerating the vitamin therapy fairly well though. She's very vocal when she's awake. I think I've spoiled her, she is always wanting held! Lol
Aww hope the lil one keeps improving!

All that is needed now is the back wall and roof! Then pallet wood for lap siding.
I'll have a complete post from start to finish when I'm done but I can't help myself to post as I go.

WOW pretty awesome, going so fast!
Hi! New to site and live in NW Indiana in Porter County. I'm excited to be here, to learn from you all and to become a new Chicken momma!

Jump right in and have fun.

So Scrappy is huge. He is Baby Huey. He is having supervised visitation with the new 1 year old girls. Thanks again Raisinemright!

HE IS ONLY A MONTH OLD!
Oh my, which is he? left front, I had to really study the pic.

They are. I cant believe how huge he is! How much more will he grow?

My ducks are growing really fast too.   My blue sweedish are almost as big as my full size khaki ducks from last summer.  Full grown my blues will average a pound more than the khaki's

Blinky (Blue Swedish) and Waddles (Khaki) are growing like weeds! So far since they've bn outside they've not bn too messy. Diamond and Earl get along with them great and they invade each other's spaces quite regularly. The "older" more established flock want no part of either pair and when they are all out to forage in th afternoon there are ALWAYS squabbles!
Update on the Silkie chick. For being just over 36 hrs old this little one has bn through H---! She's still strong and fiesty so as long as she's trying and doesn't give up I won't either. Only one person on the Silkie thread has mentioned using a neck brace of some kind. Does anyone know if this helps or would it strangle her? ( I hope it's a her anyway). She's th teensiest thing I've ever seen. Her head and body fit in a Teaspoon!!!
Because of her condition my Granddaughter has named her Crookie. Lol what a tag for the poor baby!!!

I had an EE crook neck that lived to about 8 months, he was a stinker! Just loved him. He was always tiny, and very strong willed. The vitamins will help a lot.
I had not heard of a brace, I am like you I feel it would be too confining. His name was crook, but so named because he was a french fry bandit! He was one of few I really tried to save since he tried so hard to live. Its a hard choice, we all choose which ones to help, and the ones that thrive in our care have life and love while they are with us. I had 3 that week hatched with defects and all 3 made it to about 8 months. All were from my EE, she had just been added to our flock. Have learned since, wait a month, longer before hatching eggs from a new hen.. she may be in poor condition, and the chicks suffer for it.
