INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Rural King can't really be getting actual araucanas can they?? They must mean easter eggers. Especially in that quantity. I bet you could find someone here who would sell you birds so you don't have to get them from a hatchery. I was just reading up on them last night and they are awful. They kill so many male chicks in horrid ways. And any overhatch they kill as well which is stupud imo since there are tons of people who would but the overhatch.
Ok so most recent addition for Martinsville RK now has Black Jersey Giant's and this is their upcoming stock. Said they will be getting 1500 more chicks!

No they don't have actually Araucana. They get there chicks from a hatchery and no hatcheries have actual araucanas. They mislabel them, they are really Easter eggers. They just label them what the hatcheries tell them to label them as.

here are the pic's of the TSC Batmans I got last night, pasty butts and one eye don't open.

this one wont open her left eye, and just lays around. will get up to eat and drink but then right back to sleep. 1 of DH's pick.

Cochin Batman maybe??? no problems.

have no ideal what this one is either as with DH's other pick, has pasty butt and chirps all the time.

the sign said Red Pullets, have no ideal but had to make 6.
Have another one I believe is a Cochin Batman but couldn't catch it right off and didn't want to stress the little thing out any more it too has pasty butt, figure I stress it out enough catching it to clean it up.

If anyone has any ideals on what I have here or what I can do for the one that wont open her eye I would love to hear it.

Going to pick up the goats in a little bit. will be resealing a couple, too many for my place but couldn't pass on the deal cause it was an all or nothing kind of thing so if anyone is interested pm me and let me know. they all are registered. Will get pic's when I get them home. Will have a buck for sale for sure and probably 2 or 3 does. O they are Togg's.

For the one that won't open its eye try saline eye drops. You red chick is a red sex link, golden comet, red star etc (they are all the same thing). Watch the one with the eye problem if it goes down hill, it will go downhill fast. I have had a few eye problems with chicks and seems that web try take a turn it the worse they don't poke around. I would put electrolytes or calf manna in there water too

Hehehehe I love free stuff! Got 1 of the 2 "new" sheds home. Hoping to get it set in place tomorrow!
I'm way behind and you might have already said so this is my "pre-apology if I missed it... When you moved the sheds, what did you use to move them? I mean...did you have a trailer to put them on? And..where did you get them?

Loved your detailed descriptions and photos!

I have 2 things that I want to mention.

I have read that using sand as a deep litter can be dangerous to both adult and chick health in several ways. The one that I wanted to mention is that they do eat things from the ground and the fine sand - like you think of at the beach - is supposed to be able to cause damage to the gizzard. The thought is that it is too fine to grind food and that it can irritate and actually cause damage to the lining of the gizzard. Of course that's not speaking of small rock sized gravel. Anyhow...I avoid using any sand in the litter myself.

I'm also concerned about sweet pdz getting into the litter where they will ingest it. I know some folks use it on poop boards but that isn't a typical place that they are scratching and eating from.

Of course, as always, these are things I am concerned about for me and just my opinion :D

Any ideas on these chicks? They were both in the straight run bantam. The black one was larger than all the other bantams, but I thought I would give it a try.

The little yellow one is soooo cute. By far the smallest chick have ever held.
I figured the black one was a Barred Rock, it was with the bantams so I just wanted to double check. And the other I've narrowed it to three: OEGB, porcelain or mille fleur d'uccle.

Thanks for responses! Off to tend to my chooks and walk the Aussies! Well...I will be walked...

Well I don't have any baby chick pics yet, but we do have two new members of the family. I picked them up this afternoon. Mom is black lab, dad is blue heeler/border collie mix, both are female and they will be 6 weeks old tomorrow. We haven't decided on names yet, but I think that I am going to name one of them gypsy. May wait a day or two and see what their personalities are.
On a different note great pics everyone. I hope everyone had a good day today. I am hoping that my BF does not have to work 12hrs/7days this week and the weather stays decent so that we can get some work done on house, yard and start getting ready for our chicks that will be here in 3 - 4 weeks.

And one last picture of a not so happy feline.
