INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Who would they file it against? The hatcheries or the store selling them? Also what damages do you think they'd have? Hmm...This might be a good idea. I wonder if simply having an attorney write a sternly worded letter would help. Or calling corporate.
I really on't know. It has just been mentioned several times on some other threads I get on. I really wouldn't mind seeing someone do that.
Also -Meyer Hatchery actually states that their birds ARE Ameracauna - they address the EE/A issue by saying "not to be confused with EE - as these ARE a pure breed" -- anyone know if that is true or not? THAT would be the one hatchery that I could see having set themselves up for legal issues if they are not selling true Ameraucanas. They also sell EEs so I can't see why they'd go to so much trouble to make a false assertion about their Ameracaunas
They carry wheaten and blue ameraucanas. How pure they are, I don't know. I have heard people getting white AMs when ordering blue...a little strange since they don't even carry white.

The whole issue really doesn't bother me. I know what I am buying. EEs are the only things I even get from hatcheries (actually the farm store, same difference), as I don't want HQ birds. I guess in a sense it does bother me a little, as they are kind of taking advantage of people a little bit. But surely if someone can file a law suit for something as dumb as getting hot coffee spilled on them in a drive thru. then someone can change the way the hatcheries list there easter eggers. Long story short you would of thought somewhere along the way that some would of filed a law suit on the hatchery, looking at some of the dumb things people have filed for. I just think it would be interesting to see the outcome and get it changed. I for sure am not going to do it though lol.You would think they would just agree and change but many people have asked and they don't.

Your Sebrights are just precious lil darlings! Your white/blonde bird on top is an OEGB, and looks to be possibly Red Pyle. They are sweet tiny dolls! The rooster combs are much larger at that size. You have a sweet little pullet! If I can remember I will take pics of my 4 adults and some of the babies. Diana, my red pyle hen is the only one laying right now.
how old are the SLW and bantams? My GLW roo and all his sons didn't get their tail feathers as early as the girls. The pad where the comb comes in is also noticeably wider, and more pink. You will be able to see a difference at 4-5 weeks usually.

Oooh, yay! I hope you're right! I'm thinking they are about 5-6 weeks. The SLW ARE getting a bit more lacing. Yay again! They were looking gray, just gray. I think they are going to look better!

Sorry this bugs me a bit. That woman was in her 80s, was in a parked car and had 3rd degree burns to her inner thighs, genitals and buttocks, requiring skin grafts. They were major burns. She only asked McDonald's to cover her medical expenses, but they refused, and she sued. They still hadn't asked for as much as they were awarded by the jury. McDonald's was serving their coffee around 190 degrees which is way too hot for even a hot drink like coffee, and they had gotten over 400 complaints before they were sued. The 2 million awarded by the jury was 2 days of coffee sales. Of course McDonald's spent far more on a public relations campaign to paint this the way it generally has been, but luckily more and more people are becoming aware of the truth.

In any case that's not necessarily here nor there. Typically there aren't as many frivolous lawsuits as people think because attorneys want to make money and frivolous lawsuits tend to lose. There are quite a few, though.

I think, though, that at least if you're buying them online they use weasel words to say they're not really what they're calling them. If you go to tsc or rk many people probably think they're actually getting what they say they are. So I think my first act would be to call corporate and see if they can ensure that the chickens are advertised correctly.

That was not the case I was talking about. Never heard that one. Poor lady, hope she recovered good!

Ah ok. I thought you were talking about the woman from the 90s. Stella...can't remember her last name. That was the big one everyone knows about but doesn't know the real facts around what happened. They even named the 'Stella' awards after her for frivolous lawsuits. Sigh.

She's dead. She died about 10 years ago. I'm sure it was quite hard as being remembered as 'the hot coffee chick'.

OUR INDIANA BYC'ERS CHICKEN FEST 2014.. IMPORTANT!
PLEASE, seriously, take a second and think about what works for you!
I have been looking at ideas for a while now. What I can offer is what I can access with little cost.
The private campground we have a lot at opens next weekend, hoping to catch the owner and discuss a possible chicken fest there!
The tentative location is Liberty, IN (east central Indiana)
Now that the owner's grandson is selling brown eggs at camp, I betcha he might just go for it! On that note....
I am thinking of 2 topics if there is enough interest. Nothing is set in stone, and depends on the campground owner's reply.
Possibly a chicken train, or swap day also!
(I plan to possibly bribe Dave, the owner with Quail eggs too lol. A Lil birdie told me he loves them pickled ;) )
My ideas:
1. Processing Quail, different methods etc. and/or Quail egg taste test! The "city life" answer to fresh eggs daily!
2. Fermenting feed, if anyone hasn't tried it, why its so beneficial. Different methods and ideas!
3. Poultry swap/trade/etc! Prearranged only between members, owners will be responsible for their birds and their care.
Please, shout out your thoughts or PM me! We will probably be able to reserve the barn for a good part of the morning and afternoon.
Whats everyone's thoughts, ideas, really want to learn something hands on? Or do we just want to chat, laugh and get to know each other?
What month is better for everyone to avoid conflicting kid's sport events, racing (like Indy 500, brickyard) Colts events, more...
I like a pitch in idea, bring own drinks and a dish (no alcoholic beverages please, out of respect for the children)
There is a playground next to the barn also. I want children to feel welcome, and have a family event so everyone has a good time.
There are a few family friendly state park campgrounds very close by, and they rate from primitive tent camping to grade A septic and water on site.
Its a very rewarding experience to camp, hike, fish or just enjoy the quiet with your family. I have camped with just a sleeping bag up to a big motor home. its just awesome watching the critters at night, and Bald Eagles flying over the lake during the day.
DH and I visited the state parks there often when the kids were young. Fishing is fantastic, and really fun for the kids, lots of bluegills. The smile on the faces when they "got one!" makes it worth the effort.

I can't wait for this! I wasn't able to come last year, but I'm gonna try my darndest to make it this year! I'm pretty much good any time between June and August, so whenever it's scheduled should be fine for me! :D

:hugs Am so sorry to hear pipd! Your flock is gorgeous! I lost my sebright pair during the bad cold snap, they just couldn't take the temps.

Aw, such a shame! I don't know what it is about these little girls, it's just so hard to lose them in particular! :( My Brighties did fine in the cold, except Rosie lost a few toe tips. I think the lowest we got was -18? Not completely sure. I'm just glad that is over for a while!

I was bad!!! Very very bad!!!!  Went to TSC and yep you guessed it came home with 6 chicks, 2 feather legged batmans 2 clean legged batmans and 2 Reds, don't know what any of them are... I'm thinking the 2 feather legged are Cochin's, ???? and heard of reds  but never had any so dont know anything about them.
1 of the little batmans (  clean legged ) is screaming as loud as she can and I dont know why, got food water heat and clean bedding and friends... so ?????:idunno  but I know no one is going to go to sleep tonight!!! its one that DH picked out.. go figure.
I tried to bring a Not so good one home but they wouldn't let me said they had a recovery tank to put it in and I found a dead STIFF chick in with them too, just burns my  butt that no one is watching these chicks. I mean..... dang STIFF... how does that happen?? :rant

I will get pic's up tomorrow after they calm down a bit.

 I must be among the strongest-willed of the lot of us! I've been visiting TSC more often than I normally would just to see the chicks, but haven't brought any home yet. I came close, though! There were two chicks that got trapped under the waterer that almost became my little rescues. Luckily, the folks in the store had a hospital brooder set up in the back for such a situation, and both of those biddies did just fine. I like my TSC, they seem more savvy than others. :)

I've heard Meyers ameraucanas are actually good birds. They also sell EE's separately.

Meyer does have true Ameraucanas, but just like any other breed, they are hatchery quality and not as nice as the birds you'd get from a breeder. Also, they are WAY overpriced! (And don't get me wrong here, I have an order from Meyer for this May. I just am not gonna pay $20 per chick!)

Ahhh lol. Well I suppose I'd pay 20$ a chick for a sq ameraucana but not a hatchery bird. Bleh.

I hadn't heard of that case. See I was born in the 90s.
