Although it is a place where hopefully people local to Indy can plan to get together. And by local, I mean close enough to be willing to travel to help others get work done. There is no reason anyone else cant subscribe to get ideas and ask questions. Hopefully it will inspire other locations to band together to help each other out. Even just two people working together would be a huge help for a lot of people.

Look at that sad little Minorca! I think she's improving and the others are very sprite and looking very heathy.
Sunbathing... I just filled this hole with dirt, seeded it and fenced it off. Ok, great place to go for safety!
Oh...And my birds always slid when they had a ramp and I suspect that it caused a bumblefoot in one of them. I had some old logs that needed to be burned and made steps from them. They stride right up and down and no more foot injuries.
Stumps leading up to the door, stump play jungles...man, I wish I would have seen these ideas before I got rid of all the logs from the trees we removed last year! Looks like the chickens love them and I am guessing if you lift up a log you'll find lots of goodies for the chickens to eat.

I totally forgot about it because of all the stuff I have going on, but I'm sure she doesn't mind. This girl arrived here as a day old chick. I can't believe she's still as active as she is--and that it's been 9 years since I got my first chickens!!
For our coop, we got 2 dog houses from RK and screwed in 2x4's around the door, then built a run out of railings and connected the dog houses to the run. Very simple and this year I'm going to paint them all and add some trim to the run so I don't catch fabric on the chicken wire so much. Looks really nice and didn't cost much at all.
The piece of wood you see on the left side of my pics is an outdoor roost. They LOVE both. They play king of the hill on the stumps and sit on the roost to watch traffic. I feel like a chickens life is so boring and I only let them free range in the evenings, so I wanted to give them a playground! I'd love to hear other peoples ideas also! I wonder if they would use a tunnel?
So, incase people are getting stressed out a out the price of coops, remember that anything that will keep them dry and out from the wind will likely work great as a coop. Example: my 3 clearance $15 or $20 dog houses!
Obviously they aren't going to work for a lot of birds, but I have a trio of tolbunts in one, 5 bantam Cochins in another and,y pair of LF in the other.
This is kind of what I have going on, except that my dog houses are connected to an exterior run. Love this idea though, it would be easy for me to convert what I have. What kind of netting did you use for the top?

She was downsizing and also had nice looking adult silkies available.
This is so helpful, thank you for posting! I am going to another auction in hopes of finding some HQ silkie hens but if not, going to have to break down and buy some eggs or find someone willing to part with some of their adults.
To answer you both, no. Her last egg was last summer and she hasn't started laying yet this spring. But that's okay, because she's had 8 years of egg laying up to this point.

How did you make this outside chicken area? I've been thinking I'd like to have something like this so I don't have to keep such a close eye on everyone but they can still get on the grass and scratch around.
Lets face it - sometimes as a 'Chicken' Person, you sometimes feel on your own, either literally or figuratively. Many chicken owners are single, and others are not blessed with a significant other that 'gets it'. My own partner is very supportive of my hobby, but regards most chicken related work as "my thing'. This means something like building a coop or a run can be a bit overwhelming if you have to do it on your own.
There has been discussion on the Indiana thread of people getting together to help each other out on major projects. I'm starting this thread so we can use it to communicate, discuss, decide, plan, and coordinate that work. We definitely don't want to exclude our other Indiana BYCers, but recognize that some live far from Indy and that we have a critical mass of people close enough here to be able to possibly make this work. We also don't want to clutter up the general Indiana BYC thread with chatter that is specific to the Co-Op. So subscribe if you would like, and let the teamwork begin!!
I love this idea! People working together for a common cause and helping each other out, not much better than that! Wish I did live closer to Indy just to help out. I'm not very strong but I love to paint and know my way around most tools.

Today has actually been a pretty great day. Haven't seen my chickens yet either and they are usually what makes my day better! In BYC related news, I got an email from nifty chicken today. They informed me that they were looking at the list of members with the most ovations and I was in the top 0.01%! Couldn't believe (still can't). Maybe I am just super happy about everything good that happened today, because yesterday kind if stunk lol. Anyways, big thanks to everyone who has given an ovation!
Well took some pictures of the silkie flock. I out half a dozen or so younger birds in with them. The older ones are still picking on them, but they are still eating or drinking. THey just spend majority if the day in the coop while the older ones are out in the run. Hopefully they start accepting them. Of the 6 younger chicks, at this time I'm only seeing one cockerel! Let's see if I'm right lol.
We just moved all of our chickens around too. It will be interesting to see who gets looked in the run by the ador. We will put them in the coop of course but still fun to see how long it take the new chickens to learn the ways of the door.
