INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I read about this, too.  It really opened my eyes to the propaganda people hire out to make their companies look good and the victims look bad. As though skin grafts on one's genitals wasn't enough victimization for that poor old lady.

Oh I agree. Sad case really. Sure she had responsibility since she spilled the coffee. But it shouldn't have been hot enough to cause third degree burns in 2 seconds. Did you see the pictures? Oh my dear god. I worked at Starbucks. There's a difference between brewing temperature and serving temperature. Yes you brew it very hot for the best flavor but you serve it much cooler so that people can actually, you know, drink it.

Lol anyway I don't want to cause a fight with people who may disagree so that's all I have to say about that.

Seconding M2H re: the stress of building something (that part of the quote didn't show up!).  We are only building a run to attach to an existing coop and it has given my husband a lot of stress. He's smart and able-bodied, but when it comes to building things that is not his area of expertise.  If I were starting from scratch I think I would buy a shed large enough to walk into, too.  I like the little coops I see at TSC and RK and the like, but they're too small.
I try to remember no matter what route I go, I can have 2 of the 3: cheap, fast, or good. In my experience, no matter what I bought/hired/did, it's rare to get all 3!

Agreed! Fast, good, or cheap! Not all 3.

I spent DAYS finagling galvanized furnace duct and fittings into in-wall gravity feeders. They turned out fine, but when DW came to see my work, nothing was visible BECAUSE THEY ARE IN-WALL FEEDERS!! I was heartbroken that days of efforts looked like nothing. :(

Too cute

Ok...so I bought the plans for the coop I linked. I'm going to make it 4x8 and a slant roof (dunno the correct term for it) that opens, though instead of the whole thing opening I'm going to cut it in half I think so I open 2 pieces instead of the one she has. Hope that will help stabilize it. I'm going to make on side of the roof over hang out 3 or 4 feet so the chickens have a semi protected area in the winter and spring. I'm still undecided on the egg box...I am thinking I will just do one inside the coop. I'm going to make one side with large double doors for cleaning the coop. I don't think I'm going to do the deep litter method but I don't know...it's going to need a lot of litter with how large it is.
Sounds like a plan. Please post pics as you go!

Awesome!!!! Now you have room for some thing else.. any plans? Or are you going to just scale down?

LOL sounds very motivational, I have to till up and get the soil tested, I WILL plant a garden this year, even if its just a few rows. Bell peppers are crazy expensive, and I love romas. Oh gotta have jalepenos... and squash! OK maybe several rows ;)
Turkeys are just bigger chickens basically. They have a few different needs, but if you socialize them, you may love them more than the chickens. (just don't tell em that) I love poults, they sleep on your lap, follow you, and coo to you like you are mom or dad. Snoodles my little tom still sits on my lap when he isn't trying to be a big puffyTom. Anyone really wanting to learn about turkeys, check out this thread... full of great info!

The 2013 thread is great too, lot of reading but excellent info.

Its very cute!
Good luck, wet or damp, cool conditions outdoors will bring it on too. Its a terrible experience, I had it in my CX 2 years ago and lost 2 of 25.

Hehe, I still have an opportunity to get one of those big ones they use at ports. I just don't know how to get it here!
Thats a lot of weight, and the cost wouldn't be worth it.
PM me on the shed, if we can work it out we will.
I betcha we can talk DH into it! He will probably help out, he likes doing things like that.
We are working on a work co-op Idea for this very reason, so many of us have skills in different areas.

Yes! I love the co-op idea!
Re: The shipping container
It is only a couple hundred to get a CRANE to move it into the back yard. That brings the total cost to about $1000-$1300ish. Which really isn't bad since it'll last forever. When we die our DD is going to dig my DH up and kill him again. She'll have to get it moved to ever sell the house again, lol! Thankfully that's about 60 yearsish from now.

Hey guys!! I found a shed someone will sell to me for 100$!!!! Is there ANYONE here who is familiar with how to move one and can help me haul it???? I can pay you! This would work really well from what people are saying. It looks like it just needs a little paint and some trim. Of course I'd need to figure out a bottom...

Can anyone help??

At that cost, you could easily pay someone to help. What a savings!!!

I agree. I just have no idea what it entails. Obviously the entire thing can't be moved in one piece but how hard would it be to reassemble? And how hard is it to them convert?

I'm really between the two ideas. Lol.

This could be a good opportunity to start the co-op idea. I'll be happy to pitch in to help. We would just need to find a good date that could get a couple people together to help.

Oh my gosh. This might be way better than building that smaller one, then.

When I put the shed on my property I will need some kind of base wouldn't I? How do I do that??

Oh and I have another person who can help as well, and I can help (obvs) though I have no idea what would be involved lol.

I'd be willing to donate my time to help! I think going bigger is better, they will be happier and you will be prepared for chicken math when it next strikes! You will already have the space! You can still divide the shed into separate pens or pens/storage if you want.
