INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

What breeds are you looking for?  Depending on the breed we might be able to help you find someone who raises them.  Or we can ask around our rabbit friends & can probably come up with names of breeders.

Thanks but we did find a couple three. Holland lops!

Pet grade because of the ears not laying down. But they are so docile and love being held! My kids are in heaven lol.
Thanks for the offer for help though!

Well 8:45 and the run is completed! It's only a temp run due to the birds will free range when I feel comfortable! That being said it's a pretty secure run. And I'm not to worried and other critters getting into it.
My son was another huge help today!

I'm going to be glad when I can enjoy the coop instead of working on it lol

I started catching up on all the posts this morning. It has been a busy week but one thing that has been really exciting to see is this coop shaping up. I still have 90 pages to go, so I'm sure that there are many more cool things to see but WOW! Great job you guys did on this coop.

Hello and welcome to all of our new members! Its been really nice seeing everyone's posts. I have been busy with my kids school, finding out I can't see anymore (just drifty eyes which just happens to be my DH's worst phobia, lol ), and picking out a replacement counter, cabinet, and faucet for my main bathroom. I have it 95% installed, so that's pretty exciting. This coming week we will be getting all the wood for our raised beds in the garden and the run extension. That won't freak the chickens out, I'm sure. Initially I was just going to build the first two (I wanted 6), but my friend own's a sawmill and offered to trade the wood for some stained glass windows. I have been looking for a reason to get back to my glass workshop, but chickens have overtaken my last year and kids did before that. Once I started thinking about getting them all built, I realized that they will just take up more of the garden space than I want because it will limit my chickens ranging area , so I've settled on 4 that are 4x11x2

. It feels kind of silly limiting my garden for the chickens as the garden came first, but the chickens are more fun.

Our chicks are doing just great. All seven are getting really big (except for the little OEGB) and I think I may have one or two roos in the bunch, so I guess that means there are really 4!! One of the Welsummer chicks is so sweet and the Black Australorp has the prettiest songs. The little Mille Fleur d'Uccle is really flighty and is constantly flying at the other birds. Its pretty fun to watch at least from the outside! This week we will also be building a small run for the little guys to be outside during the warm days (obviously not the next two), but I think they will love it. Can you believe we have the potential of snow in the forecast? I can't be the only one that is not pleased by this, but oh well.

Anyway, I hope you are all well by the time I reach the end of the pages and thank you for sharing all the cool pics!

Yes I am still alive....

Quick update and such and I am working on getting my social life back on track..Eventually

DH and I are still house hunting... We did find a gem located in Pendleton with just under 8 acres.. Loved it... Do you think the darn estate agent would call us back... no... Just found out after a week long of ignoring our repeated calls about this house that someone had made an offer on it. So mad

So we are still in search of our little dream.
We are now looking at one in Mount Comfort with 4 acres, not overly keen on it but I have had my fill at looking at houses.

The produce stand should be up and running again this year, although with the darn long winter will be opening later this year than anticipated.
This will also mean more time for Backyard Chickens

during the not so busy times during the day.
vickichicki!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've missed you!! So sorry about the Pendleton place! I didn't realize that the real estate market had improved to the point of realtors ignoring customers. geez. Maybe it worked out for the best because I've heard there's a woman named jchny who lives in the Pendleton area and has too much poultry to count!

Not to mention other varmints like goats and pigs.

Just teasing! Anyway, it's so great to hear from you and to know your produce stand will be back in business. We've had so many new members from the Indy area that when you get ready to open again, you'll have to let everyone know the location and hours.

Your flock looks great, and what luck to have a beautiful roo that doesn't crow! And for the one who crows and fights-- love the name
Pipd~ Thanks for the update on your big girls-- and the big man. What are the chick breeds you're getting? I'm sure you've mentioned it, but I can't keep all of these chicks and breeds straight.

CCCHICKENS~ I assumed they were Ameraucanas-- but certainlEE didn't want to say the wrong breed!

We don't have much snow here, but I know you guys certainly do!
Any advice would help!

MamaDoodle ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! and to Indiana!
Please look on page 2510, post 25095 for more info about our great Indiana thread!

I'm confused about the dog kennel coop -- is that just for new chicks, or is it a temporary idea for chickens until you get a chicken coop? Your avatar has a link underneath to your coop, so I assume you are not moving it here? I'm not trying to give you a hard time or anything, I'm just trying to understand more about your flock and needs.

I'm one of a few who uses a little heat in the coop during the winters for my pet chickens. I take precautions and have been pleased. No frostbite, deaths, or miserably cold chickens.
Please see page 2404, post 24036 for information about heat lamp safety.
kaphyper~ I might have to become a chicken thief and steal that adorable Barred Cochin Frizzle!!

CRSelvey ~ Haha I'm glad your drifty eye condition has actually helped you be able to drift your eyes from store aisles to shelves in order to purchase your indoor and outdoor home improvement needs. My DH set up our garden beds with soil in them, and the next thing we knew, there was a chicken in each bed! They said, "Thanks for our individual dust baths!"
