INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

So, my update...waiting on a referral for an MRI because my youngest has caused me a really painful shoulder injury. I've been toughing it out for two months and can't tough it out any longer. Haven't been able to sleep through the night due to the pain. *sigh* Of course that has interfered with work and life and building the run/improving the coop. DH has really taken over the coop, which is great. The kids are helping out with the birds. Couldn't do it without them.

The birds are in the garage for now. I set up a box fan for them and they love it. Ideally we will get them into the coop this weekend. We'll see how it goes. DH can get the new roof on in an afternoon, but I had planned to whitewash the inside and then put down vinyl. Sounds simple enough, but doing everything with one arm is anything but.

Behind on work, too! Stressing me out.

Trying to focus on the kids, though, and make sure they have good memories this summer. Managing my mood while feeling like my left arm is being torn off bit by bit is kind of a challenge.

So far my rooster count remains at 1. Otis (fka Oprah) crows, has a big red comb coming in, and loves to mount all comers, including the guinea hens. I do think both the guineas are hens. Watching their wattles. DH has taken to calling Otis a mean name, but as long as he doesn't actually start hurting anyone, he'll be allowed to live here. If he gets mean, he's going bye-bye. Good chance of that, I think.

Jury is still out on Lynda's sex, but she started sprouting white feathers this week. She is the blue Silkie, really almost black.

Finally found all the herbs I wanted for my raised beds around the run. Hope I can keep them alive until I get this thing built!

Hope you all have a good day/week/however long before I log in again.

still dealing with the poison ivy over here. It has been just over a week. The children's is gone but mine is still bright red in many of the places.
The hot showers have helped the most but the relief only lasts for so long. I can't take 10 hot showers a day as I don't have enough backup childcare.
Any other suggestions? I have some peppermint oil on the way but it could be another week before it gets here.

I am a little behind and trying to catch up - so how is the poison ivy? I find Tea Tree oil works well, it has antihistamine properties. I take 1/2 generic allegra during the day and benadryl at night. The other thing is something that won't help you now, and I need to get the recipe for it but might help for the future. My best friend makes "Poison Ivy Tincture" it is rubbing alcohol based and has a bunch of herbs in it and for me it helps the itching, helps it dry up faster. It is a life saver. But I just tried to call her and noone is answering so I will have to get the recipe to you. I am pretty sure it needs to sit and soak up the herbs for awhile but if you had it on hand for future outbreaks it would help. It is doing better. The children are completely back to normal. I have a few places left. The children were able to take allergy meds but not me. For at least the next 9 months I need to avoid any allergy medicine as well as sinus meds. Just one of those things that goes with having a baby. I can use tropical lotions and oils though. A goat is not an option right now but it sure was sounding great when I really really wanted the meds.

Who else got a short but powerful downpour? DH and I were out watering the chickens. We have new waterers and they are working wonderfully. We got ours from premier after seeing @racinchickins
Our new waters fill from the top it is so much easier than tipping and refilling. Of course it would have been even easier had we removed all of the tops and let the rain fill the waters up a bit. The duck pen has open water bucket along with a kiddie pool. The rain nicely filled their water for the night.

I did! I'm safe and sound and dry at "work".

I'm still in the planning stages for setting up one side of my front yard for 2 goats and possibly a kid or two to get the female goats in milk.
Any goat owners out there than can recommend a good blueprint or building for 2 female goats with offspring at some point but never more than 2 adult goats? I'm thinking nubian full size goats as the mini goats look extra hard to milk. Once I get an idea for what kind of building I need, I'll start in with fencing questions and daily care questions too. I'm thinking I could use next year's ta refund to pay for a nice but not overly nice building. I don't want a lean-two as winter can be really really bad here.

Since Sally brought it up... what's the minimum acerage one would need for this kind of setup?
