INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I've had Perkins years ago growing up. The ones we had were males and tried to breed EVERYTHING. This last time I got ducks, I got the 2 Campbell's you now have as well as another Campbell and Cayuga. I preferred the Cayuga over them all.

I am going to be getting some Peking duck eggs soon. Never had them. Anyone else have these?

Animallover, all my extended family is out of state too. Just my 2 brothers and my dad here in indiana, and they are all about 3 1/2 hours north of me.

I really need to stay away from eBay! Just picked up 12 Swedish flower hen eggs for $18 shipped!

I know, right! Those Russian orloff are really tempting me, beautiful birds! I really like the heavier birds tho. I had 4 bad eggs out of my coronation Sussex, disappointed. they were very porous, one was even leaking out a little. Those are on a turner, so i didn't even candle til today (day 13) was hoping for at least 50% hatch so I may still get it on them. I am really proud of my GLW rooster, Red. out of about 60 eggs, only 1 is infertile so far!!!

he has 5 girls so he is doing his job very well

hey fellow BYC'ers, been off for about a day and got up to speed on the thread. Can't believe that someone would actually steal a whole flock right out of the barn. This is making me think twice about who I let around my property, as we too have a pond out behind our house to which people are always asking to fish. This would make me so upset. Thinking about seriously putting some locks on my coop when the girls finally move outdoors!

Orloff are definitely on my to get list. While I'm in no hurry for them in the next couple years I'd like to get a few.
Are the coronation eggs from your birds or did you purchase them?
Sounds like you have a lady's man in your flock lol

I need some help.. I have 6 guineas, 2 males, 4 females. Starting about 3 weeks ago, they started to become very aggressive towards my chickens. Yesterday I was working out in the yard, when one of them took off after my little hen that was still recuperating from a dog attack. He actually had her down on the ground and was tearing into her. The rest of the guineas were all running to join in on the attack and if I had not gotten to her first, I am sure they would have killed her. I have one rooster who has had his tail completely torn out. I thought it was from the same dog attack as the hen, but now I'm not so sure. I witnessed a guinea go after one of my other hens when they were all scratching for corn I had thrown, he/she actually tore out a chunk of feathers from a hen.

I've was reading a thread on BYC about this same problem. It seems you really can't have guineas and chickens together? Or if you do, they need to be all female or all male, but not both? So I guess, my next question is.. does anyone want 2 males? I hate to kill them, but I cannot have them killing my chickens. I bought the guineas to use as tick control so I don't want to get rid of all of them if I can keep from it.

OH, man, here too... I rehomed 3 boys last fall, gave them away. I have 2 males 2 females. Just built a "guinea coop" very same reason, right against the main chicken coop. They were attacking my 2 youngest hens nonstop, and started in on my Red!

The only non-aggressive one is my pearl hen, but she was raised with the chickens. Once I start hatching their eggs, this group is going except for the pearl, and they will be started out with chicks and goslings from day 1. I will say the predators stay away from the coop since they have been here, surprising.

Willow won't be of age til spring, she is only about 10 weeks old and I won't do winter piglets, too difficult.

No, but I was curious about them, sound very sweet and gentle.
I just have the Muscovy right now. BTW did you know they don't quack, they "huff" and hiss, its hilarious watching them!
