[Mother2Hens]

Hello! My family and I got some sexed EE chicks last spring and one of our 4 hens turned out to be a roo! We are within Jeffersonville city limits and although we have a good relationship with our neighbors, I am afraid his crow will wear out his welcome come fall. He is stunning and i would hate to have to turn him into broth but we have been unable to find a home for him.Is there anyone on here who is looking?

What happened to their mother I do not know, but their two other litter mates died of Parvo.

This is the girl named Vegas.

This is the boy named Charles.
Today is day three of fostering. They're seeming much stronger--and feistier.

pginsber~ My sister and I always joke that the humane society/animal adoption places must drug their animals because they're always so sweet and laid back, but when you get them home, they wake up and go wild!! haha

Anyhow, I did my first trial spray this morning. I used 1 gallon vinegar, 2 big squirts organic dishsoap (helps to make the spray stick to the plant and not run off immediately) & a generous 1/2 cup salt. I used a new pump sprayer I bought for this purpose last year but never got around to doing it. Here are the pics I took. I'll try to keep taking pics for the next day or so and then after about a week to see what happens. The first pic of each spot was right after I sprayed it around 11:30am. The second pic was around 2:00pm.


You can see especially on the left some of the grass has dried up, but not so much on the tall grass. I'm not sure I sprayed a lot here and all the way up the grass since there was a bit of wind and I didn't want it to blow on my roses right beside it.



This is the same section of path, just taken from opposite ends. I only sprayed half of the path to see if there was a difference. The right side of the path was sprayed & is the darker color. The clover & other stuff was shriveling up. Again, I didn't spray the edge too closely because of the plants growing right next to it.


You can definitely tell a difference here.

finally caught up... Dads coming home soon!

He is walking around, actually pushing moms chair to the dining room. This wasn't ok but he is doing it! I take Mom over so they have dinner together every evening.We see the surgeon very soon to let him come home. Mom is missing him terribly. He walked 400 steps yesterday unassisted. The stinker sneaks past the nurse station at night. they call me

So he is trying so hard!
My parents are both so amazing to me. They are still like high school kids when they look at each other, its pretty amazing to see. I am thankful they have time left to be together.

I've used Wazine for the girls, can u use that on goats too???

how can you use that on goats? (n dairy ) and how long did you wait to eat the eggs after you used it. I wormed everyone last week and had to go BUY eggs... I want my eggs back... the bottle says 2 weeks. do I really have to wait that long.????

You may see my daughter - she is there today in her role as a "Horse and Pony Ambassador" (year long commitment/job through Purdue Extension) - and I think she also has royalty duties (maybe the parade of queens?-though that may be later) to fulfill (she is Miss Jefferson County) today since she and her 1st princess both had to be there.

There are some treatments that aren't visible, however. So you can't just look at them.

Side story.. Seeds for thought....
My husband works for a "feeding charity" that accepts donations of all kinds of food items. They got in a shipment of GM soybeans and another kind of seed as well which I don't remember. Of course the seeds were treated with herbicides and the bags were all labeled as poison and hazardous to health. Had to have HAZMAT shipping papers, etc.

Yeaaa makes you wonder. That would all have went to the trash.

I don't believe they were ever able to ship it. But...how do you legally and properly dispose of hazardous waste? Makes you wonder about why we would put it in our fields, harvest and use it for edible products...

I am skeptical about claims that resistance doesn't evolve to herbal remedies. They create the same selective force that any medication would, in which any parasites that have better survival rates in the presence of the herbal remedy will increase in frequency, eventually leading to a population of parasites that are all resistant. The real way to get rid of an infection/parasite is to give multiple drugs/herbal remedies that work in different ways all at the same time or in quick succession. That kills everything because it is unlikely that any individual parasite is resistant to all the different methods of action of the multiple drugs/herbs. (Note that I am speaking as a biologist here, not as veterinarian, so I'm not suggesting a treatment plan, just talking about the evolution of drug resistance).

If you want a really good explanation of how and why the herb sources don't have the same resistance issues as pharmaceuticals, read these books....very good source of information and the studies done.

Herbs are currently some of the only items that are successful in treating anti-biotic resistant bacteria and virus today. Also gives a good explanation of why you should reserve antibiotics and antivirals for TRUE EMERGENCY rather than "everyday use" as so many have been accustomed to. They lay out the history of the discovery and use of antibiotics, the beginning of antibiotic resistance, the reason that bacteria and virus don't become resistant to herbal antibiotics/antivirals, and the outlook for the future. Very well documented.

I highly recommend reading at least the first one listed here. You will be glad you have the information to make an educated decision on how you proceed with your life and your animals.
